Would be zero stars if I had the option. Absolutely horrible service! I work in the area, have frequented the restaurant several times and at best the service has been slow and pushy.
I exceptionally went on a week night evening for a date when my boyfriend. It was the worst dining experience I've ever had in my life. The manager was our server. He didn't say hello when we walked in, he didn't look at us, he didn't lift his head up and acted extremely inconvenienced when we asked to be seated. We were one of 3 tables in the restaurant, total. It quickly disintegrated from there. We waited and waited. He slowly lumbered around, not acknowledging us. One table finished eating, the other table had their order taken. We were there for over 20 minutes, menus folded on the side of our table, waiting. The manager, Charles, passed by us several times. My boyfriend politely tried to catch his attention, Charles walked right passed, didn't look at us or acknowledge us. There was no missing our request. We were astounded. My boyfriend attempted to get him again saying we're ready to order and AGAIN he ignored us. Finally he came over to us and spoke to us in a very condescending manner "do you have any questions on the menu" when we had clearly indicated that we were ready to order. Instead of acknowledging the situation or actually apologizing he feigned complete ignorance. Way to add insult to injury, he wouldn't even take responsibility for his actions!
We had chosen a nice bottle of wine, appetizers and mains. Our bill would have easily been $100 at a fairly inexpensive restaurant. The service was so rude and condescending we were too repulsed to stay. It was 6pm on a Tuesday night in an empty restaurant, if you can't mentally prepare yourself to service your patrons under the easiest of conditions, you're in the wrong industry, Charles.
I've worked in the service industry for over 10 years, the manager's attitude was totally unacceptable. With an ounce of effort he could have salvaged the experience, instead we'll never be eating...
Read moreHad good reviews, so 4 friends of mine and myself were excited to try their pizza. Inside the restaurant looked nice, but our server was unusually short with us and was cold and unfriendly. We thought maybe she was just very busy or having a rough shift.
She told us they were out of arugula and cherry tomatoes, which was absolutely fine, and we thought we could still order a pizza that would just come without those ingredients.
My friend tried to order the pancetta and fig pizza, and the server became very hostile and angrily scolded her saying, “I JUST told you five minutes ago we don’t have that. I literally JUST said that to you.” And stared at her like she was an idiot. She then told us we couldn’t order any pizza that listed arugula or cherry tomatoes as an ingredient, those pizzas were entirely unavailable.
We were all taken aback and a little shocked at the outburst and asked for a few more minutes to decide. Apparently the pancetta and fig pizza has arugula on it, but the ingredients list was entirely in French so we didn’t realize that “roquette” was arugula. Another waitress came over and confirmed that we WERE allowed to order a pizza that had arugula or cherry tomatoes in the ingredients, it would just come without those specific ingredients (which is what we thought in the first place.)
It felt like the first waitress just wanted us to leave and wanted to make us feel that whatever we wanted they were out of and they were unable to make for us.
The second waitress offered to take over our table and serve us instead, but we all felt really uncomfortable after the previous encounter and decided to go elsewhere to eat.
I have worked in the service industry for a number of years so it takes a lot to get me to actually complain about service, but this was really out of line and made us feel...
Read morePizza was good enough but service at the end was very rude. We were a party of three going out for lunch and when we paid (one bill) we decided not to tip. As we were leaving another waiter (not the one we had) took the bill and proceeded to ask, "Is this your first time in Montreal?". First of all why did he ask this? Is it because we were a visible minority? He continued and said, "the tip is not included in the final price and when you don't tip we can refuse you at the door next time you come". I told him tipping isn't mandatory and that it is optional, he argued that it is mandatory and that when we don't tip we actually cost the business money. I googled "is it mandatory to tip in Quebec" and the answer is no. It's optional and it's rude to ask for tips. Quite a few say on google "don't demand it. Earn it". We completely understand that workers in the service industry make lower than the minimum wage but the way he was framing it was as if we were breaking a law and it felt like it was coming out of a prejudice against us. Because he continued to ask us, "where are you from?", I told him we live here, in Montreal now (why does that matter?). We have the choice to tip. He continued to ask multiple times, "you don't tip?". We didn't feel we had received 'exceptional' service therefore we didn't tip. But felt harassed and left a few dollars on the table in the end out of pressure. If you want customers don't tell your customers you will turn them away at the door next time. There will not be a next time for us. Please don't make assumptions because we look a certain way and didn't tip. We didn't tip and we have that choice, don't harass...
