I came to this restaurant on a Wednesday night as part of a belated birthday celebration, driving in from NYC. As luck would have it, my Airbnb accommodations fell through last minute and I needed to bring my dog in order to make the reservation. Restaurant Limbo changed our seating to outdoors with zero issue or stress.
As non French speakers, our server Mathilde translated our menu for us in great detail. She gave serving size suggestions and recommended n/a beverages that were great. She truly made must feel confident in our ordering process.
Coming from nyc (and working in a Michelin restaurant myself), Restaurant Limbo set the bar high as our first Montreal dining experience. We tried several courses but the standouts included the Panisse, the Lamb Tartare, and the Morilles. All so flavorful and coursed beautifully. Conor also came to our table to check in and made our dessert recommendation knowing that we were looking for something light.
We finished off our meal with Oeuf à la neige- a merengue with cream and rhubarb. It might have been my favorite dish of the entire evening. So light and the perfect ending to a fantastic dining experience.
Thank you Restaurant Limbo, we...
Read moreFirst thing first, they don’t have A/C… the place is boiling hot; bring your ice pack or a towel to cool you down. Then, house cocktail is a salty rosé slush, would not recommend. For the food, we took the beef carpaccio, which was allright, the lobster with courgettes, I mean it’s almost as if they didn’t cook the courgettes, came with crunchy almonds that had nothing to do with the rest of the plate. We then had the crozet pasta; honestly you can probably do better at home. At that point we were melting on our chair and debatting whether or not we should leave. They only have natural wine, the waitress was really bad to recommend something (and rude); we wanted a light and fresh white wine and ended up with a sparkling wine?! and really far from what we wanted. I usually don’t leave reviews, but honestly this place should be avoided. It is situated in the Little Italy and there is way better option in my opinion (P.S. it was really expensive for what we had… 3 plates and a bottle at the entry...

I’m lucky to count the chef among my closest friends, and I spent several weeks there, surrounded by the smells, the laughter, the late nights. And ever since, I’ve missed that place.
Places like limbo, where people still cook out of respect for the craft, where every plate tells something true, they’re getting rare, too rare That’s why it matters to back those who care about substance, not just style.
This year, I had one of the best dinners of my life at Limbo. Not just for the food, but for the energy, the team, the wine, the honesty, the warmth. You want something real? Book a table.
Cool can’t be bought. Neither can hard work. It’s a tough, often thankless industry, and you give it back its dignity. If you care about food that actually means something, go and...
