SōZō Sushi — Restaurant in Montreal

Worst service ever, and worst hygiene especially for a sushi place. I was the only customer in the place, no rush whatsoever, and staff literally ignored me. Took them forever to notice I was waiting to pay my plate. And if you watch them prepare the food (you can see the kitchen from the counter) you will be shocked with lack of hygiene, the cashier girl touches the cash registerer, phon,e receipts, and then she goes to touch the food with NO GLOVES without washing her hands, while the other guy in the kitchen wears no gloves and nothing on his hair either, and he kept sneezing on the food!!! I could hardly believe what I saw, no one weras gloves or hair protection, they touch everyhting else while touching your food. And we are talking about raw fish, how can they be so careless about the hygiene??? how is this place even allowed to still be open? I don't understand. And the rude service on top of that just makes it a huge scam. That girl at the cash registerer was beyond rude and absolutely reluctant to do her job, and there was no rush whatsoever to excuse their behaviour. Girl if you hate your job, change it customers are not responsible for your mood swings so do NOT take it out on them. And I just wanted take out, it is not like I was lingering around for nothing. My bf and I came here twice for a date night. The first time was great! The service was very quick, and super chill. Our waitress took note of when we would finish our dishes and time it so the next one would come out right away. The sushi was quite good!! They had Ghibli music playing and it was a vibe 🩵 We loved it so much we decided to come back for our anniversary.

So, the next time our waitress (different person) was also simultaneously serving and working in the kitchen as a cook. Although a rather quiet night, she seemed really frazzled, tired, and the service wasn’t AS nice as last time. She was nice though, I know she was trying her best! The sushi tasted just ok for the price. There wasn’t Ghibli music this time and we were greeted kind of unenthusiastically by the cook.

I will say as a shrimp hater, their shrimp tempura is amazing. It melts in your mouth. It’s crispy. It’s REALLY good.

Terrible experience with this restaurant and Foodora

I ordered take out through Foodora. Half the order was missing so I was refunded for these missing items.

I ate the items that did arrive.

I was terribly ill all night, vomiting, the whole nine yards. Food poisoning at its finest.

The only thing I had eaten the day before were 2 pieces of toast in the morning, and the food from Sozo Sushi for supper. Since I ate the toast 12 hours before being ill, it remains that the food from Sozo Sushi was tainted and caused me to have food poisoning.

I contacted Foodora who ignored my emails. I managed to chat to two agents over a 81 minute chat conversation.

Sozo Sushi refuses to accept responsibility and to refund me for food that made me ill. Terrible, TERRIBLE, customer service from both Sozo Sushi and Foodora.

Do not eat here, if you should be sick, it's everybody's fault apart from the restaurant. You'd think a place that prepares raw fish would accept responsibility for causing food poisoning to a client.
