I visited Montreal today and I was looking to dine at a superb Halal Desi place. After reading some reviews, I decided to go to Mama Khan. It certainly did not meet my expectations.
First of all, the atmosphere: It is kind of run down restaurant. The tables are badly painted by some amateur. As the paint is of inferior quality, it is hard to clean the tables. So I found them sticky.
Second item, Service: No diet option was available in soft drinks. I ordered among other things 1 kg of Chicken Karahi which turned out to be 1/2 Kg when it arrived. So lack of attention. Many people want to take diet coke or any other diet drink. Them having not ANY diet drink at 5:00 PM when their dinner time is starting is a big lack of attention. Only one napkin was given with the plates. There were no extra napkins so I had to ask for it which was provided promptly. Plates and glasses were of stainless steel. They might be trying to create a special touch by it but it seemed very old fashion.
Third item, Food Quality: The server mentioned that their best dishes are Chapli Kabob and Peshawari Karahi. We ordered both of them. Chapli Kabob were fried on the top but raw from inside. They were completely soft from inside which is not the way Chapli Kabob should be. Karahi was good. Channas were good and Chicken Tandoori was OK. The reason I am saying it was OK, because it tasted good but it was not done in a Tandoor. It was done in an Oven and you can clearly see it. When you go to a Pakistani/Indian restaurant, you would expect fresh naan bread. However, these guys had naan from store and they only warmed them. They were not freshly prepared naans on the spot.
All in all, I was not...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at a mama khan in my area, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. The restaurant's ambiance was warm and inviting, and the service was exceptional.
The menu featured a wide range of Pakistani dishes, but the standout dish was undoubtedly the Peshawari Kharayi. For those unfamiliar with this dish, it is a savory meat and slow-cooked to perfection with aromatic spices and served in a clay pot.
The Peshawari Kharayi at this restaurant was exceptional. The meat was tender and flavorful, making for a rich and satisfying meal. The blend of spices used in the dish was perfectly balanced, and the aroma wafting from the clay pot was tantalizing.
In addition to the Peshawari Kharayi, the restaurant also served a range of other Pakistani specialties, including biryani, kebabs. Each dish was prepared with care and attention to detail, making for a truly authentic Pakistani dining experience.
The restaurant's decor was tasteful and understated, with traditional Pakistani elements adding to the ambiance. The service was prompt and courteous, and the staff was knowledgeable about the menu and able to make recommendations.
Overall, I highly recommend this Pakistani restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Pakistani dining experience. And if you have the chance, be sure to try the Peshawari Kharayi – it is truly...
Read moreI want to start by saying I REALLY wanted to love this place. The location is great and they’ve been very generous to the community during tough times.
That being said, I have to be completely honest, and give 2/5.
Service: Very average attitude by waiter, made us feel like we were bothering then even though there were only about 2-3 tables being used at that time. Service was also very slow. We waited about 40 min for two Thalis that usually come out within 5 minutes at other spots, since everything is normally prepared before.
Food: The food wasn’t bad, but everything lacked flavor and spice, and the portion sizes are kind of funny. Huge portion of rice and Naan, and basically two spoonfuls of each small dish (2-3 pieces of paneer in the palak paneer, 2-3 small pieces of chicken in the chicken dish). For that size, and considering how nothing was warm, they could at last have been served quickly.
Overall, we don’t plan on going again, and I can’t see myself recommending this place over the excellent locations in Parc-X, or even Thali, near Guy-Concordia, that do it faster, better, and cheaper.
We went in for a good and quick meal and, ultimately, felt like we should have gone elsewhere. Maybe that is why it was almost empty despite both major streets around them being filled...
