We were a group of 7 first-timers trying to escape while vacation in Montreal.
Ezkapaz was an easy pick because of their awesome reputation and convenient location. Booking/admission was straightforward and it was a cozy, clean, good-looking place with lots of character! We had a brilliant time attempting Opus.
Our game master Matt is a great guy and we had a good laugh as the member of our group who made the arrangements has the same name. Good intro, well explained - great English.
The room itself was very immersive, we loved the props/arrangement which was all super detailed. There was serious logic behind everything, this is fully accessible to English/French speakers alikwe and while we were unsuccessful we certainly weren't disappointed. The challenge was awesome and the excitement was still topped out even when Matt directed us through the end. It was wicked seeing how things tied together and how close we were with some aspects. Loads of twists!
Passion oozes from Ezkapaz and its staff and I'm excited to give escaping another go. Definitely had the whole group fully engaged and made sense of the "quickest hour ever" review I saw haha
A highlight of our trip to Montreal for...
Read moreWe've done many escape rooms and felt this one was a bit lacking compared to others we've done. First of all, we felt the actor was too involved in the scenario, giving us hints when we didn't ask for any. Also at 2 points she seemed to accidentally take hints out of the room with her and then need to come back in when we were missing things. We did the Barber shop and the hints were very linear so only 1-2 people were working on puzzles at a time. And many of the puzzles/locks were not useful, like a lock to get a key to unlock and other lock without giving and clues or hints in between. The story and objectives were not very clear and a little too unrealistic for me. I understand the immersive experience concept and maybe our actress was not able to sell us on it, but it felt extremely faked exaggerated and we couldn't get into the story. Overall, we still had a nice time but definitely not the best escape room experience we've had...
Read moreTried the new Barber shop escape room here and had lots of fun! I was pleasantly surprised by the low number of locks (3-4 if I remember correctly) when I entered the room. The room is nicely decorated with pieces being used creatively to set itself apart from other rooms. The story of the room was fun and light hearted, considering the adult nature of a barber shop murder house. Most of the puzzles were logical and functional with the exception of two where the game Master had to come in and progress us despite having solved the puzzles. The ideas were good in spirit, but the execution was poor. Also, there was a different puzzle where the clues made no sense, even after the game Master explained it to us at the end, she admitted to not understanding it all too well either. We ended up getting it by guess and checking. These issues aside, we still had fun and hope to come back one day for...
