I took the family out tonight to Wayback Burgers on St Charles. I looked at the website before going and signed up for their “club”. By signing up I got a free classic burger to try. When I got to the restaurant I mentioned the promo and ordered 4 burgers and sides. The cashier was lovely and patient as we picked our meals. When I got back to the table and we got our food, I realized that the total did not make sense and that they had not taken off the promotion. When the woman at the cash came to check how our food was I mentioned that it had not been removed. She was apologetic and went back to the cash and did a refund for one of the burgers and brought me the cash back to the table.
A few minutes later a very intense woman came over to the table and said she was the manager. She said that the promotion did not apply in Quebec and that I should never have been given the refund. She asked to see the coupon and then started explaining that it was not valid. She was saying that the coupon was not available in Quebec, and that I must’ve gone onto the wrong website and signed up under false terms. The coupon has no mention of it being valid in US only, or not valid in Canada, or not valid in Quebec. I was not trying to get anything under false terms. She took the money back, and proceeded to continue to ask to see the coupon and asked me how I got it. I was in the middle of eating and she would not leave the table. She took the refunded cash off the table and said the refund did not apply. She was pushy, rude and very aggressive. It completely ruined our evening. She offered to give me a free french fry or a tater tot. But we were mostly done our meal, and frankly I just wanted her to stop accusing me and raising her voice at me while I was eating so I told her we were done.
My husband was quite upset that it ruined our dinner and he went and calmly speak to her. And she continued to stress her point with him. She offered us free items but it wasn’t the point. We didn’t want something for free. We honestly just wanted to enjoy the rest of our meal. When we were walking out of the she and another man approached us with four milkshakes. We already told her we did not want them and we just reiterated that it was not OK to approach us in such an aggressive way while we were eating and not walk away when I was clearly upset. She started again with us, and I got very upset and walked out. Honestly, if she had just apologized and not continued to try to argue with me, I probably would’ve been fine. She had zero remorse and no interest in admitting that her approach was not appropriate.
It’s a shame because the food was good and the woman at the cash gave great service. But the attitude of the owner/manager was so off putting I will not step foot in the restaurant again. I don’t know how they feel justified in aggressively interrogating a customer during the middle of their family dinner and feel that offering free food makes up for this awful experience.
If their website is confusing and their promotions are not valid here, the email coupon should clearly say not valid in Canada or Quebec and they should properly train...
Read moreGet ready for a detailed review. Comparative resto: Five guys
Atmosphere is open, simple dining area with booths and tables. Everything is new. There is a view to the open kitchen.
Service: new spot, won't take off much points right now but dealing with orders, making shakes, sit down service of trays. Is it a resto or is it a fast food joint?
Food: Burgers go up to about $13. For reference McDo you'll pay $9, Five guys about $10 for a simple? Everything is simple for toppings but here were some unexpected things. Buns came in below room temp, I think they toast just 1 side. Cheese couldn't melt over the warm patty. Fries are fries, nothing to go crazy about. Onion rings were pretty fried but I think Harvey's does it better. Milk shakes for $7 was lacking. When you break it down to bread, patty, cheese, some toppings and you'll scratch your head at $13?? For comparison 5 guys you have toppings of your choice, made your way.
With a name like this, I was expecting something high end like Wagyu patties (which cost about $4/patty retail). A different level of resto that can take what ever money I have left.
For comparison on burgers high end, Allon Burger has a Brie burger for $23 which we order...
Read moreOn the hunt for a good burger, unfortunately i’m still on that hunt. I read another review that said that it was lacking in sauce and I’d have to agree with that. The burger was dry and seriously lacking in spices. The toppings were good though I couldn’t get enough. I had the sweet bacon and the mix of the sweet and the salty was so so good. I just wished there was more flavour in the burger or a sauce that could contrast with it. I also got the Cajun tater tots as a side. The spice reminds me of the five guys Cajun fries, but it’s just so light. They spiced it with a light hand. A service was prompt The staff was really really nice. I can’t say anything bad about them. It was a clean. It wasn’t busy. I also went on off time on a Saturday so take that into consideration. Honestly I think the only reason why I would go back would be to try the milkshake, but I don’t think I’d go back...
