Dover Chinese Food — Restaurant in Nanaimo

This is Nanaimo's hidden gem for Chinese food. My wife and I order, and whether it's pickup or delivery, the service is always great and the food is hot. Let me tell you about the taste. It is great. Few Chinese restaurants will do a great black bean sauce. this is one of them. Even now, after I write this review, I dream of the taste. the noodles are perfectly cooked, the veggies are not too crunchy but not too soft. they are very generous with the amounts of meat, and generous with portions overall. I should know. I can eat 2 dishes at most restaurants and here 1 is enough.

A few people have given 1-star reviews for a one time bad experience. that is unfair. Dover has always taken our special order dishes, has always priced them fairly, and has always delivered on time. We have probably had delivery 2 dozen times from them and I am always amazed at their speed. the delivery driver is really courteous. we have had pickup at least that many times. there has never been a time I have come away disappointed. there have been times when I could tell that "our" chef was not on, and that the food was not quite as good as usual, but that did not detract from the fact that we got a great meal at a good price. Even at Dover's "worst", I would take them over any other Chinese restaurant in Nanaimo. My one complaint is that I can't seem to impress upon them the fact that I want my dish REALLY spicy, but I put habanero flakes on my food, so I may be an outlier.

Super disappointed today! This was our go to place for Chinese food. We have probably ordered here 50+ times. Today we ordered and it was a large order. Got home and many things were wrong. Bean sprouts through everything. Sweet and sour pork instead of sweet and sour chicken ball’s. Called to let them know the order wasn’t right and the first guy was great. Then one of the ladies got on the phone and decided to let us know, it was our fault that they had it written down wrong. We were very clear on the phone and repeated the order. I’m not sure how this was our fault and now we don’t want to go back. The arguing was terrible customer service and so disappointing. This isn’t the first time our order has been messed up and we usually end up picking out what we didn’t want. Decided to call it in today as the order was 150.00$ but instead we were argued with and told it’s our fault. Sadly I think this is the end of an almost 10 years of loyalty to this place. Super sad and disappointed in the service today. I’m shocked this place has so many bad reviews! My partner and I ordered from here twice last weekend, and both times we thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. We tried pork fried rice, chicken chop suey, chicken wings, sweet and sour pork, and szechuan style pork. Our only complaint is that they do not cook their carrots enough in the chop suey — not a huge deal since the flavours are so good, however. Also, for my gluten free friends, Dover Chinese is on the Celiac Scene and can prepare a very large variety of their dishes gluten free! Pretty awesome!
