The Curry Culture — Restaurant in Nanaimo

Food was good, but service was very frustrating. Called the store to ask if I could make an order over the phone and pay with a gift certificate that I received, which they confirmed was okay. So I order my food and go to pick it up, wait for them to sort out the gift certificate to then be told that they can’t activate it so they ask me to pay for the food on my credit card and that they’d call me the next day to get a refund or to use my certificate on another order. Next day comes, I wait until 6pm and get no call, so I decide to call them and they tell me to come back to the store for my refund. So I have to drive all the way back from my house on the south end to their restaurant on the far north end. Then have to wait while they again try to sort out the certificate and tell me that maybe it didn’t work because it could have expired considering it was purchased last year. But nowhere on the certificate is there an expiry date. After 5 minutes of standing there, I’m then handed cash instead of receiving a refund to my credit card. Incredibly frustrating experience. Not so great this time.... I went back purely for the fish pakoras and ended up being very disappointed compared to the first time when we got almost fish fingers compared to this time when there was almost zero fish in the pakora very disappointed but the staff was still friendly in the front side .......the following was a review from my first visit...VERY friendly and we were able to try foods we had not seen on other menus which turned out to be delicious. strongly recommend the fish pakoras. A very nicely made chai tea and since everything is made from scratch you can't be in a rush so sit down and enjoy some appetizers. The service was excellent as well ......my only negative was the Air freshener is incredibly strong and does overpower the lovely curry aromatics in the room rather like the grandmother wearing too much scent given you a hug and that's all you smell ....our next visit we had the truely excellent coconut lamb curry and Palak chicken those alone are going to be our favorite dishes so far or at least until next time an we try...

We were very excited to try this place out. We had a long day and decided to go out for a walk with the dog, order some take out and go back home. Unfortunately and to our disappointment, everything went well until how long we had to wait for our food.

We paid for our order at around 8 and were told it would take 20mins, so we sat down in the restaurant and waited. During the time we waited a lady came in maybe 15-20mins after, she placed her order and got her food, including what she wanted to take home for lunch the next day. 30 mins had gone by when we asked the stuff about our order, we were told they were getting it ready. It took another 15 mins.

We would be more understanding if it was a busy Friday night, but there were only 2 more active tablets (including the lady that came in while we waited).

TDLR: we waited 45mins for a take out order for 2 people.

Update: we thought the wait would be worth it. Nope. Naan bread was dried, not fluffy at all. The aloo gobi barely had any sauce, and it was cold!!! The mango chutney did not...
