Nellie's European Deli — Restaurant in Nanaimo

They like to sell cheese by the slice here, in sandwiches. They SAY they will sell it by the half or 1/4 or I suppose even by the entire wheel.

I wanted a 1/4 round of Edam and to be sure that it didn't have a yellow dry rind inside against the wax. I dislike that, it means the 1/4 was cut a while ago and has dried. This request on what would have been a 25 to 30 dollar order, evidently annoyed the counterperson who wound up not serving me. I left.

What can I say about this amazing deli? They have a massive selection of made to order sandwiches made on delicious fresh bread. The deli salads are made fresh daily and I gotta say I gained my covid 10lbs almost exclusively on their pasta salad alone. Fresh homemade deserts and soup will also keep you going back in. The service is their biggest draw. They are funny, kind and remember what I want everytime (not hard as I go in every other day). The owner worked her butt off to stay afloat through covid. Nellies is an awesome spot with a full menu of European sandwiches, dishes and pies. They also have a grocery area with imported items which seemed to be from all over. Aside from that they had the deli with a great selection of cheeses and meats (see picture). The deli is close to many amenities. The staff were friendly and efficient and it is child friendly enough to take our kids ( I took my three year old, they have candy for sale). 5 stars for sure, go buy one of their pies, I had the turkey cranberry and would go...
