Recently visited this restaurant, and while the food was good overall, there’s definitely room for improvement.
The service was polite and pleasant- the male server was attentive and handled everything well, even though he was also occupied in the kitchen. He gave us the menu right away and came back when we asked, which was appreciated. However, the restaurant could really use 2–3 servers, as it’s usually busy and one person has to manage both the tables and the kitchen, which naturally slows things down.
•The tandoori fish was flavorful, well-spiced, and cooked perfectly.
•The masala dosa had a nice crisp texture and was served hot, but the potato filling inside was quite plain- it tasted like simple mashed potatoes with almost no spices or seasoning.
(A traditional masala dosa usually has mustard seeds, curry leaves, onions, and turmeric for flavor, which were missing here)
The dosa came with three sides: • Coconut chutney: Slightly bitter, which it shouldn’t be. It’s normally smooth, creamy, and cooling. (4/10)
• Tomato chutney: Nicely spiced and tangy- this was good. (8/10)
• Sambar: Warm, flavorful, and well-balanced. (8/10)
• The mango lassi was a bit disappointing. It had pieces of cardamom, which made it unpleasant to drink, and it wasn’t as sweet or rich as authentic mango lassis you find in India. (4/10)
*Overall, the restaurant serves decent food with authentic potential, but the staffing, wait time, and flavor consistency could be improved. With a few adjustments, it could easily become a good Indian dining...
Read moreOrdered the butter chicken with Naan and rice. Flavour was pretty decent for being way out in New Minas. Not the best I've had but definitely not the worst. Presentation was decent and the naan wasn't have bad.
There were a few issues though. As others have mentioned there is a house fly problem couldn't really eat a bite without one landing on me.
The decor is very inviting and music to boot so thats a plus but had some issues with the service.
I was the only one in the restaurant and it took me waiting a good 10-15 minutes at the front desk for me to get my bill to pay.
The staff seemed nice enough but were not very attentive. At one point one of the staff members was trying to swat flys at my table, but id they weren't swatting flys i didn't see much of them.
Prices were on par with any other Indian...
Read moreAbsolutely delighted that this gem of an Indian restaurant opened in New Minas! So far we have tried the chicken kurma, beef curry, paneer tikka masala and beef vindaloo, and each dish has been outstanding. The kurma is velvety and rich, and the paneer tikka masala is beautifully fragrant. The Vindaloo is tangy and tender, but if you want true Vindaloo heat, be sure to specifically ask for it as their baseline spiciness is fairly mild (out of deference to Nova Scotian palates, one assumes).
The accompanying sides are equally well prepared, especially the rice which had a perfectly fluffy texture, and the delectable flaky porotta, which is a must try.
Service is friendly and professional too and the dining room is immaculate.
My only request is the addition of onion bhaji to the menu! ...
