KAO — Restaurant in New Minas

Went to the Kao Chinese restaurant in New Minas with some friends today.

Last time I was there was a little over a year ago. The food then was fantastic.

Today, it was an utter disappointment. Except for one dish i had that was fried pork, all the dishes in the buffet were pretty much tasteless. The sauces all came out like they had been watered down. The curried chicken tasted like someone has sprinkled a little curry in a pot full of water and poured it over the dish. The Cherry sauce for the chicken balls was just as bad.

Now their chicken wings, onion rings and anything that was deep fried seemed to be okay.

Two of us had had the fried pork dish and about 20 minutes after leaving the restaurant were were both loosing our lunches.

Now the service by the waiting staff was excellent, but after this very disappointing display of flavorless culinary talent, we will not...

Normally my wife and I never have an issue when we go here has the service is always been great except for today. Today we receive probably the worst customer service I've ever had from this restaurant. My wife ordered the same dish that she normally orders except this time half the order with missing. She ordered a noodle dish but it didn't actually have any noodles in it. When she called to ask where her noodles were the extremely rude waitress simply dismissed her concerns and claimed she told her what the dish was. You don't give a dish a name that signifies it has noodles in it and then say oh it doesn't actually have noodles in it. Even on the website menu it doesn't say that there aren't noodles in it. Because the dish is designed to have noodles in it. Needless to say I am extremely disappointed that we receive such poor service and the waitress had to be so...

I ate at the buffet for dinner and was quite impressed! Lots of selection of Canadian Chinese food and everything was hot and flavorful - though alot of the dishes had breaded meat so that fills you quickly. Great value for the price ($17.99 for adult and that is unlimited food).

One thing someone in our party noted though was another guest was going to cut a piece of pie and held the rest of the pie with their hand to cut a piece - unsanitary for sure so beware of other people! The entree dishes though are all served via spoons so shouldn't be any concern there - just something the restaurant staff should be watching for!
