This place has gone way downhill and is now very poor value for the cost. My husband and I went here for lunch today, intending to split. We ordered the Reuben (comes with coleslaw, no fries), an add on caesar and an order of fries + gravy.
The Reuben: this is $16.50 so we expected it to be substantial. It was tiny, served on everyday rye sliced bread and was 1/4inch thick with nothing but a dash of horseradish. No Russian dressing. No pickle (except for two see through, thin sliced pickle rounds at the side of the plate). No melted swiss. None of the standard toppings that come on a reuben. This wasn’t a reuben at all. It was a plain, toasted pastrami sandwich. They also did not serve it with the coleslaw which is supposed to come with it.
The Caesar: the size was ok for a side but the bacon bits nearly broke my teeth. The bacon bits are so incredibly hard, making the salad inedible due to the inherent danger of needing dental work after.
The fries: They were standard and the gravy was good. They should have been included with the sandwich like every other restaurant does. Instead they were an additional $5.00.
The bill came to $33 and change. They charged me $7.50 instead of $4.50 for the caesar. The owner argued with me that it is correct until I showed him the note underneath sandwiches showing the $4.50 to add it to your meal. I was taken aback by his argumentative attitude. He was very resistant to acknowledge something printed in black and white on his menu.
I pointed out that they never served the side coleslaw and he said, ”it’s either or, fries or coleslaw, not both.” I said, “one is complimentary and one is paid for so, no, that’s not right. If the menu says that an item COMES WITH A DISH, you serve it.” I have never heard of a restaurant subtracting food from a dish just because you ordered other menu items. It’s just cheap and silly.
After much back and forth he agreed to adjust the price and it came down to $25 and change. I appreciated that and I offered some constructive criticism: “If you are going to charge $16.50 for a sandwich, you need to serve something with it, like fries otherwise that is a terrible value for such a tiny sandwich.” He proceeded to argue back, “have you been to the grocery store lately?” I said, “ yes, and fries still have a huge margin for you.” Super fries, for a giant Costco sized bag are $4.99 at Costco which would have about 30 servings. Fries are DIRT CHEAP to buy.
He was clearly angry at this point and shoved the receipt at me and said angrily and sarcastically, “have a nice day.” Terrible owner’s attitude, tiny portions, weird rules and unreasonable prices make this a ‘never again,’...
Read moreWe've decided to visit this restaurant as the reviews have been amazing, however we didn't find it great at all.
Atmosphere - very outdated decor, small booths and cramped space. When we entered it was very busy, rustle and bustle of plates clanking and people talking. Then in the middle of the meal, music appeared. I guess they forgot to play the music from the beginning. The general vibe I got was of a cafeteria in a nursing home.
Staff - very friendly and knowledgeable. The man at the cash register operates an old version of it and calculates the change himself - I respect that but the annoying thing is paying at the front as opposed to them bringing the machine to you to the table. We had to wait to pay while they were trying to greet people coming in. The waitress was also very friendly and gave us the full description of specials and answered our questions.
Finally, most importantly, the food! Honestly, nothing mind-blowing. Yes, it was fresh and tasted decent BUT they didn't allow substitutions. Also, it was on the expensive side for what it is - $20 for a sandwich? Pass. Limited menu - only two pages and no description of the items. Portion sizes were okay, but for the price I expected something more. And most of all everything was veryyyy oily. For the tiny portion of the coleslaw I got, half of the condiment bowl was filled with olive oil (no exaggeration). I guess that's why they're called "The Buttery". The fries were also saturated with oil, and the batter of my haddock was thin and insanely crispy. You could beat a thief with that fish, if you wanted to. The eggs Benny that we got was better, the sauce was creamier than usual (I guess due to more butter in it). The potatoes were good but nothing extraordinary, just oily.
Overall, we wouldn't go back, there are much better and healthier,...
Read moreThis restaurant is located in the Best Western hotel but you can enter from the front door facing the parking lot. They are open for Breakfast and lunch till 2:00pm. They used to be open for dinner and have been open for 35 years. A family owned restaurant. The hostess seated us at a booth built for two. There are bigger booths on the other side. Our server was man who I’m not sure if his name but he was very friendly. He took our order and brought us out some delicious bread that was still warm and the butter was soft. I hate cold butter. I ordered the chicken souvlaki $22.50 but it was the special of the day so $1 off and my husband ordered the chicken Parmesan $23.50. The server asked if we wanted more bread and we said yes. The food was delicious. We both enjoyed our meals. I can see why they have lots of regulars and people from the hotel. The place has a cozy feel to it with the matching flowery fabric on the chairs and booths, pinkish chandeliers and dark pink and green chairs. We didn’t get desert because we were so full on the bread and food. But it’s worth the visit. The elderly man who I assumed was the cook came out to talk to people. The people are all very friendly and the...
