Came here for lunch on a July Tuesday, as we wanted to support the new owners (this place used to be a pirate-themed restaurant for years). "2-9-5" (the telephone area code for Chippawa, in case you're wondering) is now a convenience store, place where you can rent a U-Haul truck, and restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. We wanted to eat outside, so we went into the convenience store and ordered. The signature sandwiches come with fries and your choice of canned soda pop or seltzer water. You pay upfront and wait for your food to come out. They brought it out to us, as we were waiting outside. Leaving a tip (if you're eating outside) is tricky, as the service is not true "waitstaff" (more like the person behind the counter running the tray out to you), and you pay before you get your meal. You never think to tip before you receive any service or food, and if you bus your own trays after, you don't think to tip afterwards. The menu is limited: basically several varieties of chicken sandwiches, broasted chicken combo meals, some fried 'bar foods' (onion rings/wings/fries/mozza sticks/pizza fingers etc) and fish & chips. We ordered 4 chicken sandwich combos and it took about 20 minutes. We all got something different: a crispy chicken, a butter chicken, a crispy BBQ chicken and a mini savory chicken (the 'mini' being about half the size of the others, possibly good for children or small appetites) The fries really were fantastic; super crispy but not overdone. I did find it odd that there appeared to be a full bar (liquor bottles behind the register) and that later, a group of 3 men came to sit outside with canned beer, but NO WHERE on the printed menus, large wall-mounted menu or anywhere else, was there any signage about alcoholic beverage being available (beer not being available in Canadian convenience store, but can be available in...
Read more1st visit we ordered The Atomic, The Scabanero, The Firecracker, The Yang Nyum, The Nashville and The North South on a Waffle. An absolute thrill ride of flavour! Each of the sandwiches was a completely different experience with every one being perfectly cooked. Moist, tasty chicken with the right amount of crispy coating to balance. Buns and waffles all stand up to the task of containing the oversized chicken without interfering with the crunchy tasty goodness. Even the hottest birds had wonderfully blended flavours. It is not only heat, the fruity notes, the sweet, all go together to make the best sandwiches I've had.
Second run, Three piece fish fry, crispy chicken sandwich and crispy chicken parm sandwich all hit it out of the park. Fries are some of the best you'll find anywhere, including the garlic parm fries. Light, crispy, just enough extra flavour to let you know these aren't your average frites.
Everyone who asks, and some who don't, get sent here to experience food as it should be.
They all thank me for the heads up.
Attentive, friendly service. Always smiling and truly dedicated to making each visit memorable.
Addendum to prior experience. April 1st went in to enjoy the best sandwiches again and The Genius, Harmeet has done it again! A sandwich that started as an idea for April Fool's Day became equisite reality! A Nashville sandie with Nutella, raspberry and caramel. Astounding! Sounds like too much, but the blend is perfect. A bit of zing from Nashville, creamy chocolate and dreamy hazelnut, the bright, lightly sweet raspberry and that buttery caramel to balance. Looking forward to the next...
Read moreAmazing food at this stop. We got chicken Burgers, wings and fries. As soon as we walked in we were greeted very kindly and when it was clear it was our first time the menu was described in detail to us and an effort was made to help us get what we would enjoy. When ordering I requested one of the hotter Burgers, Volcano, and the owner was nice enough to give me a sample of the sauce before to ensure I would enjoy it and got the right item. Others got the Buffalo and Nashville wings, parmesan fries, mozzarella sticks and Chicken Parmesan burger. Every item was some of the best we've had. The volcano burger made with their homemade sauce was a really good heat for somebody who likes spices and had a delicious fruitiness to it too. The flavour doesn't just come from a simple sauce spread on the buns but is incorporated into the food so well. The Buffalo wings were delicious and saucy, and the nashville were probably the best dry rub wings I've ever had. All the chicken was very delicious and the wings are nice and big and juicy which just adds to the amazing seasoning / sauce. Even something as seemingly simple as the marinara provided with the mozza stick and the chicken parm wasn't overlooked and was more than just your basic jar of marinara. The fries were a good crispy frie similar to the style of other chicken joints but done very well. Makes us wish we were locals to be able to come back and try even more of the menu and have it as our local chicken joint, but in lieu of that I can't recommend this place more for others to discover and be...
