Edit in response to the owner's reply: What an odd thing to say. I never asked for anything for free, and I don't remember the previous owners giving anything away for free, either. I have no idea what you are talking about, and it doesn't seem to have anything to do with what I said in my review.
Original review: This place used to be called Fried Chicken Rok's, under completely different ownership. I am disappointed to say that in the six months since it was taken over by new owners, the quality of the food and service has gradually worsened.
Food: The chicken is on the tough side. Not quite dry, but certainly not as tender and juicy as it used to be. (I think the previous owners used the sous vide technique to cook the chicken before frying it - that's the perfect way to prepare perfectly moist chicken that doesn't get overcooked before you fry it to order.) The chicken doesn't taste like it is made fresh to order. Instead, it tastes like it's being kept warm in an oven for several hours until someone orders it.
Service: I ordered fried dumplings, only to arrive home with my takeout box to see that I had been given a small box of fries instead of the fried dumplings I paid for. Even though the host repeated the order back to me twice, and even though the restaurant was empty, they still managed to give me the wrong order. I'd had a long day and was way too tired to drive all the way back, but the point is that I shouldn't have to. I absolutely understand that mistakes happen, but it was a surprising mistake for a restaurant where I was the only customer and business was otherwise non-existent. I'd be a lot more forgiving if the mistake had happened when they were busy. If I'm your only customer, it shouldn't be hard to get the order right.
I'm also disappointed by how the new owners seem to be responding to critical reviews. Feedback is the best opportunity a restaurant has to learn exactly what it's doing wrong and use that info to make improvements. It's not a good look to respond to online criticism with defensive or passive aggressive remarks. I would have still considered giving this place another chance until I saw how they replied to another customer on...
Read moreThis was our first time coming here to eat. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and very cozy. I love the Korean music that was playing in the background. 🙂 I love the beautiful glass mirror that is on the wall. I would love to know where the owner bought it from. 🙂 We were greeted warmly by Kayla and she is so very nice and friendly. We told her we just arrived from the US and haven't been there before. She helped me place our order for my large family. She made wonderful recommendations. She spent time to talk to us as we waited for our food. All I can honestly say is.....the service provided in the restaurant is absolutely the best. The food is absolutely delicious. Omg, my family and I fell in love with the corn cheese, the deep fried pork dumplings and we ordered all four flavors of the fried chicken. My absolute favorite Korean fried chicken is the Yang Nyum enjoyably spicy #1. My daughters love the Cheese snow fried chicken with mozzarella and cheddar cheese powder. Kayla, thank you for making our first time here the best. 🙂 A picture of Kayla is among my photos. Please stop by and order the delicious food and say Hello to her for me. 🙂 I would highly recommend coming here to this quaint little restaurant. It's worth your time and money. We will be go back there to try the other items...
Read moreI was visiting from the States and had high expectations after hearing so many recommendations about this being one of Niagara Falls’ best spots for Korean fried chicken. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to the hype. The service was slow even though the restaurant wasn’t busy. Staff were polite, but small things like not receiving condiments with my order stood out.
The chicken was dry and tough, and the fried skin had separated from the meat, which can happen when chicken isn’t cooked fresh or is reheated. It didn’t have the flavor or texture I associate with good Korean fried chicken, and it tasted like it may have been pre-cooked or frozen rather than freshly made. The fries tasted exactly like the ones you get from the Costco food court rather than fresh, homemade fries. For the price, I expected much better quality and preparation.
Upon reading a couple of other recent reviews describing similar experiences, it seems the ownership has changed. While the sauces are still tasty, the chicken itself is nowhere near the standard I was told to expect. From what I gathered, you’re really paying for a passed-down sauce recipe from the previous owners rather than the quality cooking that made the place popular in the first place. I’d recommend reading recent reviews before...
