Hespeler's Cookhouse & Tavern — Restaurant in Niverville

Three of us went for lunch. There was no one dining that we could see, and took a while we thought for someone to come over with menus, which I thought was unusual. Food arrived in timely manner, and as advertised the food we had was home made, not out of a can or frozen, which is fantastic. The cod fish burger was very much enjoyed, including the very fresh bun. The cole slaw, we ordered double, that came with it was excellent! The lettuce wraps were also very nicely done, and tasted great! The club house sandwich, including the chicken, were fresh ingredients which were nicely done. I was happy it wasn't processed chicken, however it did not taste freshly made but a day or two out of the refridgerator. However, the white bread choice could use improvement. It was supposed to be toasted, but could not find a brown spot on it. It was chewy tough not very tasty bread. No idea what happened. Although I love bacon, the ceasar salad had way to much of it in it, as it overwhelmed the salad,...could not taste the ceasar dressing at all. The service was terrible and the food was just okay. There were only a few tables with people and there were 2 wait staff on. Most of the tables were being served by 1 of the staff and from what I could tell the person serving our table only had one other table to take care of - in a different section of the restaurant. We had to ask for absolutely everything and even when we did ask it took a long time to get things. She never came to fill up water glasses or ask about drink refills. She came to ask how the meals were when we had already almost finished our meals and we waited a long time for her to come and take our dessert order but she already had the bill ready before even asking if we wanted dessert. The other serving staff person was quite attentive to her tables, a couple of which were right beside us but she only brought water to her tables even though our waitress was clearly not doing anything for us. I brought friends from out of province and was so embarrassed by the awful service. I’m not sure if this staff was just extremely new or is very much in the wrong job. I have never felt the need to give a restaurant a bad review this experience...

Service was good. The waitress was friendly and endeavored to make your time there pleasant. This is the second time I have tried to take my crew there for lunch for a hot meal. The first time we got our orders after an hour wait. I had to leave to open the shop back up. That was over a year ago. I tried again to take the crew out for lunch. Friendly service but from the time of order to the time getting the hour again was over an hour. Again I had to leave without eating. We take an hour for lunch. If you want to go to Hespeler's you better make sure you have plenty of time because from the time you order until the time you get your food is an hour plus in some cases. That has been the case on multiple occasions even after 5 pm. Not impressed at all with the extremely slow service. Not recommending Hespeler's if you have a time restraint any time of the day. The food I can't comment on because each time I have gone there I have had to leave before I got my food due to schedules. Just to note, we didn't order anything that had a cook time.
