Wanted to take my parents in law out for some East Indian food and stumbled upon this place on Google. Was definitely happy to see such a high rating so my partner checked out their menu and showed how versatile it was.
Absolutely loved how everything looked. Showed up yesterday to a small but lovely family owned restaurant. The decor was a bit dated but it definitely gave off comfy cozy family style restaurant. The kitchen was pretty big with some great equipment inside.
We sat at a booth in the empty restaurant, although it was roughly 2pm and most likely part of the mid day lull most restaurants experience during the day. I would definitely like to see it attracting more foot traffic because its absolutely worth it! We ordered our drinks first. Nothing too fancy, just some pop cans and water which is always a safe bet!
When we were looking over the food everything sounded so incredible. Our waitress was very helpful in providing information on our dietary restrictions and made reccomendations that were spot on!
We ordered the batter fried cauliflower with garlic sauce. Holy Moly that was incredible. Even the batter was light and fluffy inside and crispy outside, had to make a comment to our waitress about that. Fantastic and delicious.
On to our entrées, I had the vindaloo chicken curry with a dairy free Naan, MIL had the same but in a combo, so she had her drink, Naan, curry, rice, salad, AND a rice pudding afterwards all for around 22 dollars! Was blown away by the portions and price point. FIL had the butter chicken and enjoyed it but would have really loved a burger or something like that. Everything was absolutely delicious with a lovely "cooked from home" feel.
Was definitely one of the best eating experiences I've had in duncan and can't wait to take my partner there very soon and try an assortment of different food items!
If you love Indian food, this is the go to spot in the area!
The only thing that would make this better is just a few more options for people to enjoy typical canadian food when they're out with family or friends getting their amazing east Indian cuisine experience. And who knows? They can always add in an Indian twist and create something everyone can enjoy!
10/10 for their food for me. Absolutely loved it and ate every last bite on my plate!
Please please please go to this restaurant, it does...

UPDATED OCTOBER-19-2020 We had placed an order at the restaurant in person, the service has declined drastically! There was no knowledge of the menu or specials?? when we did order, I came back for pick up and the server said sorry the price has changed you still have to pay additional for your order? Which in my opinion was absurd, as I made an order paid for the order came back and boom price change? Not a good way to get customers back and definetly disappointed that after paying additional we drove home (Chemainus) and opened the bag and see that there are items missing and the order that was there was not what we had ordered. We did really enjoy this restaurant in the past however they need to up there service and double check orders&prices as well as be knowledgeable about what is served at the restaurant. We know first hand how difficult it is to operate during this Pandemic, but really Aastha get it together! You will lose your customer base, we will come again but if it's the same as this time we will not be back. Please learn the menu and what's what and pricing,...
Read moreHave ordered online for pickup from Aastha Devotional Indian Restaurant a few times. The food is okay but nothing special Some of the sauces are very similar between dishes and taste like they came out of a jar you can buy at the grocery store. The service is another matter. They repeatedly got the order wrong - especially the Naan bread. We'd order without butter, it would be buttered. We ordered a $6.50 coconut Naan and we got some other kind. The last and final time we went we ordered two plain Naan without butter and we only got one Naan (but were charged for two). They stiffed us, either deliberately or accidentally. We called back when we got home and found out and the lady refused to refund our credit card the cost of the Naan over the phone. She told us to come right back and she would make another one. We live in Chemainus so we were not driving back at night in the winter. Just bad service and treated us like we did something wrong by calling about being overcharged. In the end, we never got compensated for being short-changed on our order and it was the last straw. What kind of restaurant refuses to do right by their mistake and loses a customer over a $5 flat...
