Nemesis Coffee Polygon 📍 101 Carrie Cates Ct #110, North Vancouver, BC V7M 3J4

Food

Turkish Eggs

A combination of smoked sausage, sourdough, labneh, poached eggs, and Aleppo pepper

This dish was a standout, arriving warm and beautifully presented. The smoked sausage added a rich, savory depth, complemented by the tangy labneh and the perfectly poached eggs. The Aleppo pepper provided a gentle heat that elevated the dish without overpowering it. The sourdough was well-toasted, offering a satisfying crunch that balanced the creaminess of the eggs and labneh. Thoughtfully seasoned and well-executed, this dish was a delight from start to finish.

Rating: 9/10

Brown Butter Banana Cake

Moist, tender, and infused with the warm, nutty notes of brown butter, this cake was a simple yet well-crafted dessert. The sweetness was well-balanced, allowing the natural banana flavor to shine through without being overly sugary. It was an enjoyable accompaniment to the coffee.

Rating: 8/10

Mocha

Rich, velvety, and served at the ideal temperature, the mocha struck a fine balance between espresso and chocolate. The flavors were well-integrated, with neither element overpowering the other, resulting in a smooth and satisfying drink.

Rating: 8/10

Ambiance

Despite its modest size, Nemesis Coffee Polygon offers a bright and inviting space. The minimalist yet modern décor, combined with ample natural lighting, creates a comfortable environment suitable for both casual meetups and solo coffee breaks. While seating is somewhat limited, the overall atmosphere remains relaxed and welcoming.

8/10

Service

The service was warm and accommodating, with staff displaying genuine friendliness. However, there was a minor oversight when my brown butter banana cake was initially forgotten. To their credit, the staff promptly rectified the mistake with a sincere apology, which was appreciated.

8/10

Price

Pricing is reasonable, aligning well with the quality of ingredients and overall dining experience.

Verdict

Nemesis Coffee Polygon delivers well-executed dishes and expertly crafted coffee in a stylish yet approachable setting. The Turkish eggs were a highlight, showcasing both balance and depth of flavor. While service had a small hiccup, the overall experience was positive. I look forward to returning to explore more of the menu.

The Polygon Nemesis Cafe is undoubtedly a very unique spot with an impressive pastey selection, modern chic style, and expresso brewheads integrated into their counter. Providing a unique atmosphere I was excited to visit for my first time, albit apprehensive of the stately, pretentious look from outside. As of November 2023 they provide two choices for expresso which is nice, however I felt their choice to include only choices that are both described as fruity and floral a bit limiting for someone looking for a traditional expresso. Refreshingly, when I asked for my expresso short, I was reassured that all of their shots are done short. Unfortunately, when I received my expresso, it was quite large and dilute (well over 60 mL). Also, concerningly, they served the expresso in a small water glass, seeming not to have proper ceramic cups. While concerned that the large glass would affect the mouthfeel, aromas and experience of the coffee I kept an open mind while drinking the coffee. The coffee was very fragrent and floral with notes of cherry. It was a good coffee but not what one expects of an expresso. Disappointingly, it lacked the smooth creaminess of a normal strong expresso. The volume was far too large to drink in one shot and took over four mouthfuls. Undoubtedly, it is decent coffee but is not what one expects for an expresso, especially for a ristretto. It was more of a mini americano? Overall, Nemesis strays from the traditional, which is fun and exciting but not always desired for as simple a drink as an expresso. While their coffee is quite good, and their cafe experience is unique, there are a few better locations for a good expresso on the North Shore with a more relaxing, less...

On the north shore, there is a thriving oasis called Nemesis Coffee. I immediately felt comfortable and welcomed after entering. Despite its small size, the cafe has a cosy environment that is warm and welcoming and makes you feel at home.

There are many different selections on the menu to suit every taste. I chose the Bodega Sando, an excellent combination that includes a milk bun, avocado or bacon, a fried egg, Swiss cheese, and thousand island aioli. I was happy with my avocado choice. The soft, supple milk bread and avocado went perfectly with the runny egg.

The Tiramisu Croissant was a delightful surprise. It was flaky and buttery, and the sweetness of the tiramisu was balanced by the slight bitterness of the espresso. I also ordered a latte, which was creamy and had a nice balance of sweetness and bitterness.

The service at Nemesis Coffee was also excellent. Our server was polite and attentive, and our order was taken quickly. The cafe is a small space, but they have managed to create a cozy environment that makes you feel comfortable and at ease.

From breakfast sandwiches to scrumptious pastries and delightful beverages, Nemesis Coffee delivers on all fronts. I highly recommend this location for anyone looking for a cozy, inviting cafe with delicious food on the north shore. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the food is delectable, and the service is attentive. I will definitely be back soon! Whether you're a local or a visitor, make sure to stop by and experience the vibrant energy and mouthwatering menu for yourself. With its prime location, you...
