Updated review from my most recent visit.
Went again with family for dinner - great improvement and an enjoyable experience. The food tasted fresh and the ambience impeccable.
Food: 5/5. Had the Mo’s Drunken Chicken, bluefin tuna sushi, sashimi dinner, Mye Gozen, and crême brûlée. The fish was fresh and the temperature of the sushi and sashimi were just right. The sushi rice also had the right amount of acidity, with an appropriate brush of wasabi to complete the sushi. Same comments for the sashimi and fish in the Mye Gozen. The chicken was juicy and the portions generous; probably one of the best Japanese-style chicken I’ve had and highly recommended. The crème brûlée was a welcome surprise, with a gentle flavour.
Service: 5/5. Exceptional and attentive service. Our server was well-informed about the menu, introduced us to the fresh bluefin tuna, and was prompt in refilling our tea.
Atmosphere: 5/5. Finished ceilings and classy decorations and furniture. Music was at a good volume.
Value: 5/5. High quality ingredients, well-prepared dishes, warm and attentive service, and enjoyable atmosphere for the price point.
Overall, had a magnificent experience. We will be back!

Went with family for dinner - I feel like Mye was having a rough day, because overall, the experience was not up to expectations for service and food compared to previous visits.
Food: 3/5. Ordered the dynamite roll, yakiniku, grilled cod, and matcha ice cream with red bean. The ice cream was wonderful - adzuki is fresh and sweet as usual. We’d usually get sashimi or the Mye Gozen, but decided to try the yakiniku and grilled cod. The protein was cooked to tender and was well-seasoned, though the selection of blanched vegetables for the yakiniku (bok choi, cauliflower, broccoli and asparagus) was disappointing.
We decided to get the dynamite roll instead of the usual yakitori as an appetizer. The dynamite roll was disappointing and generally inconsistent with the quality of the other items at the restaurant. In comparison with similarly-priced rolls that other tables were receiving, the dynamite roll was bland, the ingredients old, and presentation rushed, and felt more at home at Mac’s Sushi or a supermarket than a $$$ Japanese restaurant. I will not be trying rolls here again.
Atmosphere - 5/5. Decorations, music and ambience were comfortable as usual. The various decorations give the restaurant an air of authenticity and class.
Service - 2/5. Service has been, in previous visits, attentive and warm. However, on this visit, our server (Lucy) was cold and generally dismissive. There was no greeting or introduction to any specialty items for the night. The service was rushed, despite the restaurant being only moderately busy. Her way of speaking was too blunt for a server (e.g. “what do you want to order”). The bill was brought at the end of the meal without us having asked for it, and without a word from her.
Overall, the service felt disorganized - probably due to the presence of newer, inexperienced staff. The other servers seemed more hospitable on occasions where we interacted with them (e.g. tea refills). The service corresponds to what I would expect from my neighbourhood Pho restaurant or shawarma joint - not Mye.
Value - 3/5. While the quality of the yakiniku and cod were impressive, the inconsistencies in other items and flaws in service bring into question whether the price point was justified on this visit. We will be returning, but will be more cautious in ordering and with reduced expectations of...
Read moreOur family recently moved from BC, so when Mye was highly recommended by multiple people, my son and I decided to go.
We arrived approx 745pm on a Wednesday without a reservation and asked for a booth but all had 8pm res/holds. We opted for a half booth closest to the kitchen/sushi bar as there was a large table of diners at the other end. The atmospere is upscale and elegant. Our server warm, friendly and professional.
I ordered agedashi tofu as an appetizer and a green dragon roll, my son ordered the Mye Gozen the best of everything in the house as an entree and chose the miso soup as his appetizer along with an alcoholic beverage.
As soon as the first food items were brought to the table, what I thought of as 1 persistent fruit fly buzzed our food repeatedly. Then we realized that the wall at the end of the table had multiple (6+) fruit flies on it. We eventually moved tables. Our server was lovely, embarrassed and apologetic and said that she would inform her manager. Said manager did not once approach our table.
All of the food arrived but not my green dragon roll. After significant time of watching my son work his way through his entree, I had to call over the waitress and ask for my roll and as it hadnt even been started, it arrived very late to the meal. From this point the service declined. Even after piling our empty dishes to one side of the table I still needed to flag our server to request the bill and once received (I had my credit card ready) she disappeared again. Another 10 to 15 minutes and I just want to go. I position my cc so it's poking out of the top of billfold-no one noticed so I held it in my hand waving it slightly to attract attention so we could pay and go. Bill was $91, tipped 20%.
The truth is, I more than likely would not have posted a review if management had taken a moment to check in with us after we moved tables. Or if the $7 appetizer had been removed from our bill. But the flies, switching tables and temporarily lost green dragon roll (I believe this last is what did our server in) plus that management was aware that this was our first time dining at their establishment -we had mentioned on arrival that we were new customers and that Mye had been recommended to our family- had us leaving the restaurant glad the experience was...
Read moreHad the opportunity to dine at Mye restaurant last week and I can't recommend this place highly enough!
I've been in the culinary industry for 19 years and this place checks off everything to enter the conversation of one of Oakville's top restaurants. I immediately texted everyone I know who lives in the area.
The food: I am usually able to order fairly quickly when I enter a restaurant, but with everything on the menu being something I wanted to try. My friend and I decided to order a bunch of dishes to share and we were blown away by all of them. Our order consisted of the following:
Yakiniku: The most tender prime rib you are going to try is going to be at this restaurant. Accompanied with some mixed veggies, I 'm still thinking about this dish a week later.
Black Cod: This is easily the best black cod I've have had. I mistakenly confused this for Chilean seabass as it was that flakey and perfectly grilled.
Rolls: Oh Mye! Roll & Lobster Roll. Both of these rolls were perfectly crafted with amazing fresh ingredients.
Oysters: We had 2 different oyster options, the Oyster Rockefeller style along with the way they do it. The oysters were large, perfectly shucked, and flavours out of this world.
Sushi & Sashimi: All of what we ordered was phenomenal, but we really stood out to me was the spicy scallop roll. When you usually order these at other Japanese restaurants, they are way too covered in mayo which masks the beautiful scallop. This was not like that at all. It felt light and soft which made a perfect addition to our meal.
As you can see my friend and I ordered quite a bit, but we had plenty to take home for a full dinner.
The atmosphere is a mix of modern Japanese mixed with some traditional elements that is very easy on the eye and gives you a very comfortable dining experience.
I also had the opportunity to meet Mr. Motoaki Aoki who is the owner and executive chef of this establishment along with his son Kenta Aoki who has taken the reigns in running the restaurant. After speaking to both of them and seeing their passion in running this restaurant, you know right away why the food is...
