Definitely one of my favorite study/lunch spots for an affordable, healthy, authentic homestyle meal. They have lots of combo deals for lunch and the portions are huge with amazing flavor.
Service is as good as it gets, "Hong Kong style" service where the service style is sharp but efficient. They don't speak a lot of English here, mainly Cantonese so try not to make too many order modifications. The lady with the bob and glasses has been my server during my recent visits and she's always been on top of my order even when she restaurant gets slammed-- and it gets BUSYYY. I'm talking full house at 12pm on the dot and while I've never been for dinner, I'd imagine the same. The restaurant itself is also very small so they have limited seating.
My favorite item to order is the 3 meat BBQ rice bowl (on the main menu not the specials), which comes with char siu, bbq chicken, chinese bbq sausage, a salted duck egg, rice, and broccoli. So hearty, generous portions and full of flavor. I just wish they'd peel the egg shell before serving though lol. I've also had their braised brisket soup with egg noodles and that was delicious as well. Not too heavy because the broth is quite light but it was filling and had a generous portion of melt in your mouth beef.
Some reviews complained about the BBQ not always being available, but after seeing how slammed they get with both dine in and takeout orders, it's because they sell out FAST, because they're GOOD. Catch them during their opening hours (all BBQ gets put out at 11:15) and you'll have a better chance of having the full selection.
This place is a gem, I've been wanting to gatekeep for a while now but more people outside of the East Asian community need to know about this spot...
Read moreOverall, the food does the job. The vibe is very utilitarian or homey (depending on how you look at it) and it can get busy quickly. It gets an extra star considering that there aren't many other authentic Chinese restaurants in Oakville.
Roast meats: Steamed chicken, and marinated tofu are acceptable. Char siu is also generally fine but I find the texture varies between visits. Unfortunately, you can consistently expect half a serving of roast duck to be cartilage with a thin layer of skin (skin texture is also lacking). Wonton soup: Shrimp wontons and noodles are fine. The noodle portion verges on excessive as is usually the case elsewhere. Soup flavour is indistinct. Stir-fried choy sum: Always cooked well - but hard to mess this up. Beef ho fun: Decent level of wok hei, though not quite with the deep savouriness that you could find east of here. S&P squid: Well-seasoned and the squid is perfectly tender. Baked spaghetti bolognese: Slots somewhere in between pasta made with store-bought jar sauce at home as an afterthought and an Italian grandma's pasta. I don't think it's actually bolognese per se but it's hearty and filling. Milk tea: You could go to Mr. Sun and get tea with a stronger fragrance. Mapo tofu: Less spicy and more sweet/savoury here. HK-style French toast: It's an interesting dish but noticeably heavy if you've stuffed yourself before trying it. Tomato and beef rice: Similar concept to tomato egg. The beef is silky and the sauce enrobing everything is...
Read moreOk so I went there at 1000 to order a Peking duck. They said come back at 1130 and it would be ready. Came to $80 which i thought was a little high, however nobody else is around in the oakville area that has Chinese bbq meats. Paid the order and left. Came back at 1130. They seemed puzzled and never spoke a word of English and went around talking to different members for about 20 minutes. Then one employe came up to me and said they are sorry they had given my duck away. I was like ok. So how long because I have people waiting at my house. They said 20 minutes, I was already waiting 20 minutes and said no please just refund my money as it was 1150 at this point. A younger Asian girl came up to me and said no it's ready now. So I said ok. I didn't get out of tire until 1223. I said to the one employee, it's one thing to forget about the order, it's another thing to lie about it and tell me it's ready. Not one sincere apology was given and they did not provide any compensation or care that I waited for over 50 minutes . I guess because they have no other competition around, they don't really have to try. I'm going to drive to mississauga from now on for better tasting, better priced and most importantly,...
