This was my most disappointing visit to a new restaurant in some time. My family visited the Aquatarium, and the person at the visitor info counter recommended two options, with this being the one we chose.
The atmosphere is great, with ample seating spread through various rooms, and some overlooking the brewery.
We were seated and had our orders taken quickly, which was great given there was a street festival of some sort happening.
I ordered fish tacos with potato fingerlings (the server explained that they were like wedges) and a beer flight (west coast IPA, east coast IPA, brown, and stout). My wife ordered pulled pork tacos with kettle chips and a pint of amber. Our daughter had a cheese pizza off the (3 item!) kids menu.
The drinks naturally came out first. The west coast IPA was my least favourite, but all were decent-to-good - the stout was terrific. However, my wife's amber was the best of all 5.
When the food came, it came alone - no ketchup, salt, etc., or even silverware or napkins - we had to request each. But the servers were all very nice, so no problem.
My fish tacos were accompanied by a caesar salad rather than fingerlings, but that was quickly rectified. Unfortunately, the fingerlings were cold, with a texture of somehow being simultaneously under and over-cooked. They reminded me of when I was a teenager and first learning how to cook potatoes. They had a decent taste, but the leathery texture made the overall experience a bad one. I really hope they just grabbed some old fingerlings for my order, because I'd hate to think that's how they're meant to be.
The fish tacos were equally disappointing. They were the saddest, barest fish tacos I've ever had, with far too much cilantro, which overpowered them.
My wife's pulled pork tacos were also overpowered (by dill) and were dry. Her kettle chips tasted like kettle chips.
Our daughter's cheese pizza was quite large for a kid's item and, while nothing to write home about, was serviceable.
If we weren't quite so hungry after a busy morning, we'd have sent all tacos and the fingerlings back. As it was, we choked it down and headed home.
While other reviews suggest my experience may have been unusual, I won't recommend this place to friends for anything but the beer. In the unlikely event we return, we'll stick to the...
Read moreHello,
I stopped at your brewery on our way to vacation I Toronto.
We walked past you restaurant and enjoyed the vibe and decided to stop for lunch and drinks.
We ordered a Cuban sandwich and full ribs 2 beers. Side dishes we fingerling pirates and Greek salade which we includes in the menu
The drinks were amazing and we were even thinking of purchasing some beers to take back home with us.
When our plates arrived we started eating and realized that both our potato plates were uncooked. I asked the waitress if we.could just change them for salads and she said yes and ordered them.
The food was amazing.
When came time.to pay the bill, I payed but then took time to look at the bill again and realized the waitress billed us the extra salads. We questioned her about it and she said that yes she had to charge these to us as there was no manager on place to discount these..... We were charged extra and we were not told these would be an extra.cost. I would have thought since the potatoes were uncooked we could have switched them out for the salads . We did not even eat the potatoes as the were sooo uncooked.
I am extremely angry and disappointed.
I would have liked to have been told prior that there would be an extra charge for changing our potatoes for salads . The potatoes were uncooked..... I think the restaurant should have taken better responsibility first on making sure the food is cooked adequately. And second fix their mistake. Also if it is a discount issue, to.aimoly not charge the salads and keep note of this and discuss with the manager the following day, or give the manager a quick call.
This is really...
Read moreOur server was super friendly and welcoming, and I think this is a good place for alcoholic drinks (beers in particular) and chillin with friends and having some food to tide you over. However, being a tourist, I went in for dinner with the family and I was looking forward to downing a hearty burger and some kick-butt fries, but alas, no burgers and fries appeared on the menu. And for a place like this, I completely assumed it would be a cornerstone menu item (with that said, they did have other beef-sandwich type items on the menu). Some menu items were unavailable: the personal pizzas; one of the chicken wraps due to lack of avocados; and some side dishes that accompanied food orders (I recall the potato salad was unavailable). So myself and my teen ordered steamed vegetables alongside our orders and we received a soft heated mix of seasoned red/green peppers, carrots and zucchini, seasoned in oil -- tasty enough for myself, but we assumed the veggies were going to be steamed broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots. My teen passed on veggies, so I gobbled them up. My other teen ordered the "mac and cheese" and they were alright with it. All in all, the food itself was alright, and the price/value proposition, well ... hmmm ... I will let someone else weigh in on that. Next time however, for my family low-down, we will try our hand at another place. But if you are going there for drinks with friends/colleagues and having a bite to eat, a more hip generation than me would probably say it is on par with other...
