Golden Lake Seafood Restaurant — Restaurant in Ontario

Interesting decor, colorful and bright but getting a little aged and needing a refreshing. The bathroom needs better regular maintenance and cleaning, looking as if regular upkeep was lacking. Things like brackets and covers need replaced and properly fastened. The service was ok, simple but not on task, slow on drink refills and lacking napkins and followup after food delivered to table. The bacon cheeseburger looked good but lacking quality meat. Highly processed patty snd bacon was some kind of mystery substitute. ( see picture) The fish and chips were priced fairly although an extra 2.99 for coleslaw seemed a little extreme. The plate served looked good and golden brown. The fries were fresh cut but not crispy, obviously not parboiled therefore not up to texture. The fish was more of a slice of fish evident once cut into. The flavor was hard to tell because of the fish to batter ratio. The fish was not full and flakey but instead mushy and thin with mostly chewy texture because the cut was close to the bone including cartilage like texture. Although edible, I would prefer a better cut not close to the connective tissue. Although some may like. this, I do not. The cost at $50 for 2 meals was not excessive however we did not finish our meals and left still hungry and a little disappointed, there is so much potential here. Perhaps things will get better. The restaurant was not busy on Friday at dinner time which should have been a warning sign. Sorry I wished...

I posted a review on their Facebook page but I thought I would double up here as well. We have now tried Golden Lake twice now, both times as takeout.

We've always used "Archie's" as the benchmark for what we consider GOOD fish and chips. We've wanted to try Olde London Fish N Chips but it seems like any time we've gone there, the lineup is way too long. So naturally we were curious when Golden Lake opened.

So we ordered the haddock dinner for 2 the first time, and the dinner for 3 the second time. Each time the fish was fantastic and tasty. I would say that their fish is every bit as good as Archie's. We were offered a choice of light or regular batter. So far we have only tried the regular batter but it has a great taste and flavour to it.

The first time we had their food I would have described their fries as "just ok". They weren't bad, but they weren't great either, they were just average. But to be fair, at that time I couldn't really say what they could do to change it..

But the second time we ate there, the fries seemed much better. I'm sure it was mind over matter, but in the event they have changed something, its for the better!!

Both time's we've ordered their food, it has been ready on time, the staff are always friendly. I don't eat coleslaw, but I was told it is quite good.

One of these days we might try dining in their restaurant, but I can say for sure that the takeout...

Amazing experience from the time I walked in until the time I left. Opening the door to the restaurant you feel as if you are in an beach front seafood restaurant with a modern design in the entire restaurant and has ample seating for both small and large groups. Upon arrival, I was greeted by a very kind host and seated right away and given time to review the full menu with seafood and other options (burgers and chicken). I was then promptly greeted by the waiter who took the order and answered all my questions. The food came very quickly and after finishing my plate, I have to say it was the best Fish and Chips I had ever ate! I recently came back from a trip to London, England and visited some of the best Fish and Chips restaurant in the country (Poppies Fish & Chips, The Golden Chippy) and I can honestly say this was a better all around taste and experience with Golden Lakes excellent batter on the fresh Alaskan Halibut ordered. The waiter came twice and asked if we need anything else, a refill and finally thank us for the visit. I couldn't have asked for a better all around experience. I plan on coming back and bringing a larger group to eat in again and try there breakfast menu! Great job Golden Lake Fish...
