Stay away from here.
Absolutely horrible. You're much, much better off going to Subway than here, in terms of taste and hygiene.
Came to give it a shot after seeing decent reviews, and what a waste of my money.
First of all, there was no respectable hygiene practice in place. I painstakingly watched our server touch ingredients with her bare hands, never washing her hands between anything. And we saw her on her phone before putting in our order, and she definitely did not wash her hands before touching the food to start making our order. (And if this is the standard we're starting off with, then who knows where those hands have been?) After touching every single ingredient with bare hands, she touched the calculator, cash register, and the debit machine. I was horrified but tried to stay positive because (just maybe) the sandwich is good. I mean, why else would this place have an overall decent review?
And, I should've trusted my gut feeling...
Tried their double cheese steak sandwich and single regular sandwich, and it tasted terrible. The steak part was just thin sliced poor cut of beef that wasn't seasoned and tasted like it had been sitting in the fridge for too long. The bread was stale and the "cheese" they use is just American cheese slices. Even with the veggies, sauces, salt, and pepper, this sandwich could not taste remotely good.
They also managed to make the regular sandwich taste bad. The quality of ingredients here is below average, and it's questionable whether it would even pass the food and health safety inspection standards. Worst sandwich shop ever. I couldn't finish the sandwich. It was disgusting.
The customer service was performed with bare minimum effort.
The only thing to enjoy, if I was forced to say anything, would be the wooden interior. It created a cozy vibe. It's an incredible shame that such a nice building holds one of the most disgusting, unhygienic foods I've ever tasted.

Read moreDespite noticing a few reviews that warned us about the terrible hygiene, underwhelming customer service and subpar food quality here, my fiancé and I still decided to give this place a shot in light of the overwhelmingly greater number of positive reviews by comparison from local patrons. We thought to ourselves: “It’s probably one of those surprising hole-in-the-walls that’s just kinda misunderstood by some stuck-up food critics from out of town with unreasonable expectations.” However, to our dismay, we were wrong to have ignored the red flags when they were presented to us. It was indeed as how one commentator had more or less put it: “you are much better off just getting a subway… you’ll at least get a larger sandwich and save money doing it.”
Besides the fact that my food was crafted using hands that were so contaminated that not even Sheldon Cooper’s mom would bless them, the little ingredients used to construct the food were just so cheap and uninspired. I am well aware that this was no fancy restaurant, but it doesn’t even qualify for the greasy comfort food that tastes good enough to render all the cholesterol and trans-fats worth it.

Read moreI have a had a very long relationship with the Hoagie House-- walking down Division St. from my grandparent's house 20+ years ago to visiting it just a few weeks ago. (visiting it years apart in between, lots of family in Kingston and the family cottage)
Not much has changed, wood panel everything and the fella running the place can sometimes be grumps or fun.
Their hoagies don't taste like your regular sub place-- I can't quite explain it, there's an extra umami / grill flavour and the fast food places have nothing on the Hoagie House. Great combo of bun, protein and cooking.
I can best describe this place as an old school hoagie, sub, sandwich, Philly type place. If you're a fan of oldy diner burger places, you'll probably love their cheesesteak.
100% nostalgia had influence in this review, but I'm really glad the Hoagie House still exists and decades later after my pallet has changed, I would still absolutely...
