A Undergraduate Culinary Gem in Kingston - K-Pop Sub Sushi
K-Pop Sub Sushi in Kingston is a gastronomic experience that stands out, even when compared to the diverse culinary landscape of my hometown, Toronto!
Despite initial reservations about the establishment's cleanliness, the culinary delights offered here quickly ECLIPSE any such concerns! :)
The sushi bowls and burritos served at K-Pop Sub Sushi are, quite simply, unparalleled!!! The flavors are a symphony of traditional and contemporary tastes, masterfully combined to create dishes that are both innovative and deeply satisfying. The seaweed is always fresh, imparting a crisp, oceanic essence to each bite. The Japanese gourd, or Kanpyō, adds a unique sweetness and texture that is both surprising and delightful. The creaminess of perfectly ripe avocado and the array of additional toppings create a rich array of flavors as you engorge yourself from famishness.
But what truly sets K-Pop Sub Sushi apart is the extensive selection of sauces. Each sauce, from the subtly sweet to the exhilaratingly spicy, is crafted to complement the sushi's flavors, elevating the dish to new heights of culinary excellence, at least for students in this town!
This establishment has become a beloved spot among the Queen's University student community... and for good reason!
The combination of flavor, creativity, and value makes K-Pop Sub Sushi a must-visit destination for anyone seeking an exceptional sushi experience in Kingston. It's not just a meal; it's an adventure in taste that leaves you craving more. A definite 5-star recommendation for anyone who appreciates the art of sushi...
Read moreFirst time trying this place, I was very excited to try this since I heard highly about it, however, I was slightly disappointed on some aspects. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly staff (probably the owner) and we ordered the food. Many of the things on the menu looked very appetizing - we ordered a shrimp tempura burrito and it came with 5 toppings (with a HUGE variety to choose from). The burrito looked great as they were building it - paid around $12 after taxes for the entire thing.
On a downside, it seemed like the hygiene of the sushi bar was not as tight as the standard should be. The fryer for the tempura did not seem like been cleaned for a while, and the rice was very hard like it has been left out of its container for a few hours. As well, the staff did not change gloves before making our burrito - however I did notice that he did indeed change it for the NEXT customer (just be sure to pay attention if you have allergies!)
Overall, it was a very upbeat place that is loved by the Kingston community, and I am delighted to hear that it is not usually like this. I would give it another shot, however, the first impression will be the review! Just be sure to be clear with your expectations if you have...
Read moreFood is good and fresh, but some of the pricing does seem a bit... not quite there in terms of value.
I thing the biggest thing I can recommend to this place is to offer some pre-selected combinations for burritos! There are sooooooo many options for toppings and combinations that are possible, it's very daunting and it took me 15 minutes to figure out what I wanted to put in there. Especially because it's not a conventional type of food, you have no idea what would taste good together or not, and you don't want to screw up your burrito by putting in a topping that doesn't blend well with the others!
I think if the owners did some experimenting and came up with 1 combination for each main filling that tastes great and offered those pre-selected combinations for newcomers, that would make it much more accessible and easier to order there for the people who are on the fence about trying it but have no idea what...
