This past Friday night, my partner and I had the pleasure of dining at Hunter & Co., and it was nothing short of spectacular. It was my second time visiting in the past four years, and I was beyond excited to return. My partner had never been before, so I was eager to share this experience with them—and it absolutely did not disappoint.
We decided to share four dishes between us, and from start to finish, every bite was a delight.
We kicked things off with the Beet and Burrata ($28)—a beautifully balanced dish with arugula, fennel, olives, and blood orange. The flavors were a perfect symphony, bursting in our mouths with every bite. A true flavor explosion!
Next, we had the Scallop Ceviche ($28), prepared with citrus, soy, sesame, and a delicate tapioca cracker. This dish was an absolute dream—the scallops literally melted in our mouths. Every element complemented the next, making it one of the highlights of the evening.
For our mains, we shared two dishes. First was the Bone Marrow & Caviar ($40)—a unique and playful take on surf and turf, featuring salsa verde, lumpfish roe, and samphire. While the flavors weren’t my personal favorite, my partner thoroughly enjoyed it. I appreciated the creativity and execution of the dish.
But the real star of the night—the dish I will be dreaming about for weeks—was the Lamb Shank ($38). Fall-off-the-bone tender, served with curry masala and naan, it was rich, comforting, and packed with deep, aromatic flavors. As I write this review, my mouth is watering just thinking about it!
To top off an already exceptional evening, we sat at the bar and were served by Harry, an absolute superstar in the hospitality industry. His service, knowledge, and attentiveness truly enhanced our experience, making us feel welcome and well taken care of.
We ended the night with espresso martinis, which were just as delicious as everything else. If you’re a fan of espresso martinis, I highly recommend ordering one here.
Overall, Hunter & Co. delivered an unforgettable dining experience. The food was outstanding, the ambiance was intimate yet lively, and the service was top-tier. Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, this is a restaurant that knows...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I came here for my birthday dinner after a recommendation from a friend. I wasn't impressed by much but there is a few things I liked. This will be a long one..
The summer elk sausage was decent I've never had elk that was kinda special. I also like how they give you a large chilled bottle of water to top up yourself, free's up time for severs and I don't feel like a child asking for water.
That's about all I liked. We went in blind to what this place would be like, it's tight I mean tight. This in of itself isn't horrible it small restaurants can make the experience feel more homely.
The wall is a booth and the isle have chairs, I gave my gf the booth. I counted my chair being bumped into around 5 times by staff and other customers. The table to my left was being served and a waiter ran into my arm/left side giving them their food.
Our food came to us in a reasonable time, it was busy so no big deal for a little wait. I asked for the goat cheese for one of my 3 picks (read menu for explanation) the waitress brought two different types. Honestly kinda a bummer but I'm not going to make a stink over it, we are human we make mistakes, I ate the cheese that came.
I wasn't a fan of the dish I ordered which is fine I tired something new, just wasn't for me.. a bit on the salty side but it could just be me totally fine.
I gave up on trying to finish my food while my gf had the rest of hers. The table to my right had just paid and left. A few minutes later the waitress comes to clean the table.
She sprayed the table with a cleaner.. I feel a misting hit my arm. Granted I'm not eating but the food is there getting misted by whatever cleaning agent. I wasn't impressed. I would had said something my gf asked me not to so we carried on with our night.
To wrap up we asked for our bill, took 15-20mins for that to show up, and when we were leaving a waiter almost ran into my gf going to serve the table near the front door.
I don't feel like I'm being to harsh it was generally a poor experience. The price was whatever eating out anymore is too expensive anywhere live a little. just know it's not cheap.
I wouldn't recommend or...
Read moreHunter & Co is nestled in between 2 other businesses with an unassuming storefront. Don't let that fool you. Firstly, the staff were lovely; super friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Our server explained that the menu items are meant to be shared and she recommended about 4 items for the two of us. The portions are not large, but her recommendation was right on. I can never make up my mind what I want for a cocktail, so I went for the bartender's choice, which after asking whether I like sweet/tart and if I have a preferred spirit, turned out to be a classic gin gimlet and now I have a new favourite. Next, the food: holy smokes, so good (so good, so good)! We started with a small charcuterie board, which will be at least a medium next time. Next was the mushroom toast, which may have come with choir angels that we drowned out with our nom nom sounds. Next was Korean fried chicken that was tender with a perfectly balanced sauce. We thought we were finishing off with the duck dumplings; dim sum style dumplings stuffed with rich, perfectly seasoned duck, but we were having such a great meal that we went for the creme brulee and it was also delicious. We left, 3 gimlets later, feeling happy and completely satisfied. Every single staff member said good bye on the way out, so even after their jobs were officially done, they were still outstanding. Yes, it was a bit pricey, but I am completely willing to pay a bit extra for such a lovely experience. We've already picked out what we're going to order on our next visit - c'mon yummy, yummy...
