Review: Kizhakkan Thattukada
Kizhakkan Thattukada, nestled in the heart of the city, offers a charming and authentic taste of Kerala's street food culture. The restaurant's ambiance is reminiscent of traditional thattukadas (street-side eateries) found in Kerala, with rustic decor and a lively atmosphere that transports you straight to the streets of the Malabar Coast.
Food: 4.5/5 The menu at Kizhakkan Thattukada is a delightful journey through Kerala's rich culinary heritage. The dishes are packed with authentic flavors, prepared using traditional recipes and fresh ingredients. Highlights include:
Kerala Parotta and Beef Fry: The parotta is perfectly flaky and pairs wonderfully with the spicy, tender beef fry. Puttu and Kadala Curry: A classic breakfast combination, the puttu is soft and pairs well with the flavorful kadala curry. Appam and Stew: The appams are light and airy, and the stew, rich with coconut milk, is simply delectable. Seafood Specials: The variety of seafood dishes, especially the fish fry and prawn curry, are a must-try.
Service: 4/5 The staff at Kizhakkan Thattukada are friendly and attentive. They are more than willing to explain the menu and make recommendations based on your preferences. Service is prompt, and the food arrives at your table hot and fresh.
Ambiance: 4/5 The restaurant's decor is simple yet charming, with wooden benches and tables that mimic a traditional thattukada setting. The walls are adorned with Kerala-themed artwork, adding to the overall cultural experience. The place can get quite busy, especially during peak hours, so it's advisable to arrive early or make a reservation.
Value for Money: 4/5 Kizhakkan Thattukada offers great value for money, with generous portions and reasonable prices. The quality of food and the authenticity of the experience make it worth every penny.
Overall: 4.25/5 Kizhakkan Thattukada is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience the true flavors of Kerala. Whether you're a fan of spicy beef fry, delicious seafood, or traditional vegetarian dishes, this restaurant has something for everyone. Its authentic food, warm service, and cozy ambiance make it a standout spot for both locals...
Read moreI recently dined at this restaurant with friends, and while the food was undeniably tasty, everything else was a bit... let's say, "quirky."
First, the ambiance. Imagine a summer café, but it's winter, and you’re eating dinner. That’s pretty much the vibe here. The cold, open space might be fine for a casual brunch, but for dinner? It feels like you’re sitting in an outdoor patio on a brisk evening—minus the patio charm. Not exactly the place to bring your in-laws or that date you're trying to impress, but hey, it’s not like they advertise themselves as romantic, so no false advertising here.
Now, onto the service. Or, should I say, the lack of service? No one greeted us when we walked in. In fact, we had to play musical chairs and pick our own table. Maybe it was a team-building exercise for us to figure it out ourselves? I mean, at least the server was busy... so it's all good.
And then, there's the open drain right next to the dining area. Sure, some people might find the scent of an open drain during dinner charming, but personally, I like my meals to smell more like food and less like... plumbing. Maybe it’s there for when they hose down the floor at the end of the night, but a simple drain cover wouldn’t hurt. Or at least a “Do Not Enter” sign for anyone with a weak stomach.
But the real showstopper? The restroom!. Where to begin? -One stall looked like someone had mistaken the washbasin for a shower -water was all over the floor. -The other stall had no tissues, refills, or dryer. So, if you were hoping to freshen up, you’d better have your own supplies on hand. And let’s not forget the delightful drain odor wafting through the air from other stall just in case you weren’t already wondering how clean the rest of the place really is.
Despite all this, the food did redeem itself—mostly. But if they put as much effort into hygiene and service as they do into the kitchen, they’d have something truly special here. Until then, it’s a bit of a gamble: Will the food make up for the questionable atmosphere and questionable plumbing? Only...
Read moreI had one of the worst food delivery experiences ever with Kilakan Tattakada. I placed an order around 1:00 AM for Beef Kili Parota and Chicken Kili Parota. After 1 hour and 25 minutes, the driver finally showed up—but with the wrong order.
I was extremely hungry and waited patiently, but when I contacted the restaurant, all I received was a half-hearted apology. No real solution. Instead of rectifying the issue promptly, they asked me to order a pop from their store—making me pay an additional $7.24—just so they could send my correct food again.
It’s not about the money. It’s about the carelessness and negligence in their service. It’s now 2:30 AM, and I’m still waiting for the correct food. This level of service is completely unacceptable, especially when people are trusting you with their time and money.
Never ordering from here again. Extremely disappointed.
Update: I never expected this kind of response. Let me clear a few things up:
The wrong order I received had pork in it, and as someone who doesn’t eat pork, I didn’t even touch it. I never ate it, never intended to keep it.
The parcel had my name written on it—so the mistake happened at your restaurant during the labeling/packing. Please don’t push the blame onto the Uber driver when the food with my name was wrong from the start.
I never asked for any freebies or compensation. I didn’t demand a refund. I was just hungry, tired, and frustrated at being made to wait for hours due to negligence.
You claim I placed “nonsense” in public? I shared what I went through, because I was treated unfairly, not because I wanted anything from you.
Lastly, accusing me of trying to take advantage of the situation is not just false—it’s deeply disrespectful.
I’ve been honest from the beginning. You chose to respond with blame and false assumptions. I’ll leave this review as it is—for...
