Really disappointed with the decline in quality and service, truly. Koi Sushi (before COVID lockdowns) used to be my go-to for work outings. While the food was never exceptional, the prices suited "cheap" and "adequate" sushi and warranted return visits. Even during the lockdowns I was happy with the take-out. Previous prices were roughly ~$40 for two people. When lockdown was lifted I decided to offer my patronage - only to be met with appalling service and food; nothing like I had remembered it being. Firstly, the service. Koi Sushi has hired on more staff than they previously had. These new hires are pitiful and are frequently seen wandering - yet will not come over to serve even after making direct eye-contact. Secondly, the food quality itself has gone from modest to unbearable. I've included a photo of some tempura which was oily. Outside of that, my partner took a bite out of a piece of crab tempura only to find that it was still sealed in its plastic wrapper (as displayed in the picture). This was horrific. The packaged crab had been carelessly tossed in the tempura batter and deep-fried. and finally, after recovering from the horror of the tempura, I got up to pay. When I was told the price my jaw quite literally dropped. I had to ask whether or not we had the correct bill. For two people (myself and my partner), the all-you-can-eat sushi meals came to over $75. Completely unacceptable and unjustified for the quality of service and product. With the costs as high as they are and a clear decline in respect for the consumers, I cannot recommend Koi Sushi and will be avoiding it in the future.7

We ordered Green Dragon and Black Dragon, they both tasted the same and almost stale.. The Philadelphia rolls hardly had creamcheese or fish in them. The mango roll was not edible, stale mango wrapped in seaweed with one broken roll already. Avocado was not fresh at all, it seemed like these rolls were in the fridge overnight. It seemed they did not care at all about the food they serve. I also didn't think it was possible to have a bad spring roll, they tasted very bland, stale, cold and came with packaged plum sauce. Worst sushi I've had in a while.

This sushi restaurant just outside of Orillia is a nice little gem! I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the sushi & the speediness of my order. The salmon was fresh & the rice was still a little warm (my fav 😋). They had Salmon Rose on the menu which automatically is a win in my books, and the menu was nicely organized. I ordered & it was ready for pickup within 20 minutes! It was pricey, but I did opt for a la carte as opposed to AYCE. This place should be a top choice when considering sushi in the Orillia area 🍣⭐️

As someone who frequents AYCE sushi joints often I'm aware that quality service isn't really the main focus of the experience, also the quality of food in AYCE isn't as good as from the a la carte menu, and factoring in the restaurant being in Orillia, I thought I had reasonable expectations going into the experience.

However, I was still unimpressed.

The food is meh. But I wasn't expecting the best AYCE sushi in Orillia.

The service though was garbage. I came with my mom who isn't a sushi person but was looking to order some of the non raw fish entrees (pad thai, etc). When we were talking to the waitress about the AYCE vs a la carte options and my mom mentioned she doesn't eat sushi, the waitress scoffed and rolled her eyes IN FRONT OF THE BOTH OF US!!! I almost got up and left right then and there.

From there the service continued to be disappointing. The waitress barely spoke to us unless absolutely necessary. And when she did speak to us it was with an attitude of annoyance and like we were bothering her by being there. Like we were just annoying her by our very presence. Not only that when she dropped off our order of rolls I asked "which roll is this?" and she told me it was a philidelphia roll. To which I responded "I didn't order one of those". I asked her for more napkins and she didn't even respond she just walked away. We ordered drinks and she slammed them down on the table when she came back. It was just really off putting. It seemed like we'd done something to offend her. After our first order, which clearly was our first since we only ordered a handful of appetizers, I had to flag her down to ask for another order sheet after she avoided us for 15 minutes. And we were the only two people in restaurant. And when we'd finished our mains she ignored us for another 10 minutes and didn't offer dessert. I had to get up and go over and get an order sheet myself and when she saw me do that she scowled at me and I had to ask if it's ok if we order dessert. She grunted at me and rolled her eyes.

I get it, bad service happens. But it was made even more ridiculous when I go up to pay and I'm visually assaulted by at least 4 or 5 signs reminding me to leave a tip while the waitress barked the total at me.

Even if the sushi quality isn't the best I've ever had I'd probably still go back simply because it's the only option in orillia. But the service alone is the reason I will never go back here. 27.99 for AYCE dinner sushi I'll pay even if the sushi isn't the best I've had. However 27.99 to be treated like you're an annoyance to the staff and then aggressively reminded to tip?...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Koi Sushi with a large family group, and I can honestly say it exceeded all of our expectations! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the staff, who quickly accommodated our group of ten with a spacious table that allowed us to relax and enjoy our meal together.

The atmosphere at Koi Sushi is both vibrant and inviting, with beautiful décor that creates a perfect setting for a family gathering. The menu is extensive, offering a wide variety of sushi options, including fresh sashimi, creative rolls, and appetizing side dishes. We ended up ordering a mix of everything, and each dish was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor.

The highlight of our meal was undoubtedly the sushi rolls! The signature Koi roll was a crowd favorite, and the tempura options were crispy and delicious. Vegetarians in our group also appreciated the thoughtful selection of plant-based rolls, which were equally delicious and expertly crafted. The staff was patient and attentive, helping us navigate the menu and recommending some excellent pairings with our drinks.

Even with our large group, the service was exceptional. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, ensuring that our drinks were always full and that we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal. The chefs clearly take pride in their craft, and it shows in the quality of the food.

Koi Sushi made our family dinner feel special, and it’s a place we will definitely return to for future celebrations. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an enjoyable dining experience. Whether you're a sushi aficionado or trying it for the first time, Koi Sushi is...

Update. Service and food are usually on point. I’m updating based on our dinner experience.

We dined in for dinner a few weeks ago. We personally usually do lunch or take out as we don’t eat sashimi so not worth the pricing. However we ate here for dinner for a birthday celebration and we’re surprised that their lunch and dinner menu are the same. Usually the dinner price is more as there is usually a wider selection of sashimi, sushi, grill and desserts with a dinner menu that are not available with the lunch menu. The lunch menu here is somewhat comparable to other AYCE in the cities (a bit smaller) however they serve the same lunch menu for dinner and weekends with a $9-$10 premium. It would be nice to see an expanded dinner menu with more selection. Interior is run down and could use a deep clean and refresh still. We still like the food ————————————————————————- It is really the only place locally for sushi and or AYCE.

Service has been consistently really good - thank you

Food is decent 3.5/5. Flavour of food closer to 4/5 Quality/quantity 3.5/5

AYCE is pretty good. Take out is also good. I would say their to go salad has been disappointing this past year. It’s the size of a small in a large container which makes it not worth the price anymore. (I loved the salad before) The to go pricing also seems to be high for what you get. That being said. I get people are increasing prices or shrinking sizes or both.

Atmosphere. It is a little bit dark, sticky and dingy. Meaning it could definitely feel cleaner. Good clean with a fresh coat of paint. The one booth where people write on the wall for me Feels like an icky...
