There is much to be said about a business which is run the good old fashion way. The minute you walk into this place you are greeted by the owner, his family and remarkable staff. This alone speaks volume. The vast array of products ranging from deli, hot foods, fresh bread, baked goods, pastas so much more made this a one stop shop for me and my mother. To be honest, I used to go to one store to get my pasta another to get my freshly grated Parmesan cheese, and a third to get my special imported Italian goods. I was greatly surprised that all of these things were in this store, which made it so much more convenient for me. I was happy to stock up on many essentials. It is equally important to note that a wonderful business cannot be great unless it is staffed with wonderful people. Every single person in there was working hard to make it a great experience for each patron. Passionate owners account for wonderful businesses. I will be a forever customer and thank you for the wonderful experience my...
Read moreWe went in there today for the first time. We are from our of town and we arrived about 10 minutes before closing. We were on the hunt for cannoli and a case of Brio... Thankfully the lovely bakery gentleman pointed out the case of Brio, sadly he didn't have the cheese cannolis (which are my fave ), I pouted for sure lol, my husband had 3 custard ones.. I did try them and they were very tasty. The pastry was light and airy with the right amount of crispness and sugar, while the custard was velvety smooth. It was very nice. The only reason I am not giving this place the highest possible score is because the young lady working the till was brutal. She was unfriendly and miserable and looked at us like we didn't belong in the store. I'm hoping she was just anxious to go home from work, that being said she needs to really work on her...
Read moreI am ecstatic that this bakery has reopened! After reading an article in the Detroit Freep announcing it’s closure, I was sincerely saddened. So much so that I immediately contacted the bakery (via an email listed on the Italia site) to confirm. I recieved an email reply stating that after 50+ years in the kitchen, the baker had decided to retire her apron. My heart sank. Italia is a wonderful Italian bakery, with wonderful offerings, and its goods had become an important part of my family’s holiday traditions. Ah, but lo and behold! Soon word reached me that the grandson had decided to reopen the business himself. 😍 WONDERFUL! GRAZIE MILLE! One last thought, if you want to choose from the largest assortment of freshly baked breads, come early! They sell out very quickly, especially around...
