Philo and Kero Cafe — Restaurant in Ontario

A Mom and Pops' cafe, in Kingston, traditional Egyptian cuisine that took me home, and all halal. Not only are Reda and Suzan great cooks, but the kind welcoming smile, the familiar atmosphere, and nostalgia. The prices are also affordable and super budget friendly, and the quantities are generous (and delicious)!

I had the grilled kofta, which was phenomenal. I also had the lemon ginger drink which was a whole other level, soothing and delicious. Also the Turkish coffee, done in the traditional Egyptian style; you can feel the spices and the aroma in the taste. The Tahini that they make is unparalleled, and the Egyptian pita bread! There is also the traditional salad (I think we nowadays call it "whiskey" in Egypt).

The desserts too, I tasted the Roz B'laban (rice pudding), the Basbousa, and the Baklawa.

I can't not recommend it. I wish they had opened in Kingston earlier. It's the best Mom & Pops place I've been to.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I got fried fish for takeaway, just ate it (around 7 hours later) and this is exactly how I used to eat it in Egypt. Next time I am testing the shrimps and...

I stopped in for lunch, and had an absolutely outstanding experience! The restaurant owners greeted me at the door, explained the menu, and asked questions about the things that I typically liked to make suggestions. They had plenty of options for lunch, and I took note of their breakfast menu as well!

I had a platter of lamb, kofta, rice, and a vegetable salad, as well as a baklava and basbousa to sample for dessert. Excellent portion sizes, and highly flavourful food! I couldn’t be happier with the meal - I had enough left over to take home for dinner!

They told me that they do take-away, and have cold food available just by the door in a fridge. If you call, they can make food just before closing if you want to take some for dinner, as their hours during the week are 8:30-4:00, M-F.

I had the pleasure of dining at this wonderful Egyptian restaurant today, and I must say, it was one of the best food experiences I’ve ever had. The food was not only delicious and authentic, but everything was incredibly fresh and full of flavor. The cleanliness of the restaurant really stood out, which made the entire experience even more enjoyable.

What truly sets this place apart is the hospitality of the owners. They were incredibly welcoming, warm, and generous, making me feel right at home. Their kindness and genuine care for their customers were remarkable.
