Smokies BBQ — Restaurant in Ontario

Smokies BBQ in Windsor is a hidden gem on somewhat not so busy area on Ottawa street. It was recommended to me by couple of friends to go try their food. So, I went there with my family on a Friday for dinner. Me and my daughter ordered the holy burger combo. My son ordered the rib steak burger combo and my wife ordered shorts ribs plate (2 pieces). By the way I had to call around noon to make sure they put the ribs aside. And finally a skewer of jerk chicken to try. We were told that the chicken takes about 30 minutes to be ready and the burgers and ribs should be done in about 20 minutes or so. We were excited to learn that they use charcoal grill to cook the food, but it gets really smoky in there. The burgers were slightly dry and the bun was nothing special. It tasted like a cheap off the shelf grocery store white bun. They dont serve ketchup or any other condiments with their burgers and you have to pay $1.25 for any tiny container of condiments you get, that did not make sense at all. That could be a deal breaker for some customers. I'm not a ribs guy, but my wife said they where delicious and I ended up trying a small piece and it was good. The kids rated their burgers an 8 and 9. Their customer service is amazing and when I told one of the owners my feedback, he was very open about it and said he will make it better for us next time. He offered us free drinks and was very hospitable. I would have give it 5 out 5 if it wasn't for the slightly over cooked patties and It was on us too that we did not tell them how we like it cooked. I ordered the king's platter for 130 plus tax for 6-8 people. The meat portions were given as detailed. The chicken is however burnt. The eggplant and salad is only good for 2 people. The eggplant salad for 2 people, its pretty much the sum of sides you get from 2 platter, which does not make sense. Only one sauce was given for the salad. At most this platter can only feed 3-4 people. Definitely not worth it. Totally unacceptable especially embarassing for my visitors.

Update: I called the restaurant and informed them about my issue. The guy said that he was willing to give us more rice, salad, eggplant and 4 more naan as they only gave us 2. We go there to pick up the food only to be told that they cannot give us extra eggplants. I spoke to the guy as we agreed. Another guy steps in to tell us that he can't give us any more eggplants as they didnt have any. He said hes going to give us extra salad for it, which he obviously didnt. The kings platter that is advertised to feed 6-8 people is only given "1 large eggplant" which consist of 16 small pieces. In response to the restaurant, yes you are right it can only feed 3-4 people not 6-8 people as advertised, so please inform people about that. To advertise that it will feed 6-8 people and to tell me that the portions are cut due to prices is no excuse and misleading. My boyfriend and I order food from this restaurant atleast once a month and to experience this horrible customer service is again...

Service team insulted my family and me beyond what I have ever heard someone say. I was in Windsor visiting my sister and cousin from Vancouver. I am an HR Director and very much a professional. My cousin and sister are both mother's and work hard to be productive members of society. I had rented an Airbnb as we were having a sleepover to catch up as it had been 9 years since I seen them. After a bit of wine, we got silly and hungry so got out of our PJ's and walked to Smokies BBQ.

We were silly as a bit of wine, but were paying customers. We ordered take out and when I went to pay, I apologized for our silliness and explained the situation. The man who works and represent the restaurant said "seems like you have drank a lot of hand sanitizer", he was rude and absolutely judged us. Wow - talk about rude. Even after this, I tipped them as I was in shock.

While the food was great, the disrespect was unbelievable especially as I am a paying customer who was just laughing with family while we waited for our order.

I contacted them directly to see if I could get an apology with no response. Hence, writing this review as I believe there are many other places that deserve...
