I had one of the strangest and most uncomfortable experiences at this Wendy’s location in Simcoe. I walked in wearing a shirt that said “Israel is a terrorist entity” — and from the moment I stepped up to the counter, the energy in the room shifted.
The cashier who was supposed to be at the front was cleaning tables. The woman working the drive-thru was standing with another staff member, chatting and watching me as I stood waiting to be served. They both saw me but said nothing. After a long, awkward pause, the drive-thru employee slowly walked over, stood directly in front of me without saying a word, and just stared. I held her gaze until she finally said, “Hi, how can I help you?” Her tone made it clear she didn’t want to.
Before even taking my order, she asked the other girl for her code to log in, as if trying to find a reason to avoid dealing with me. When the other girl came over, the drive-thru employee awkwardly stepped aside and said, “Oh, did you want to take this?” and walked away — like she couldn’t get away fast enough.
The second girl started taking my order. She was polite enough, but her energy was tense — almost performative. She asked my name, and I hesitated before answering because I was still processing the interaction that just happened. I said “Jasmine,” which wasn’t even the name I meant to say. She proceeded with the order, took my payment, and then, before putting it together, went all the way to the back.
From where I stood, I could see her stop and talk to another worker who was preparing food. She stayed there for about a minute, almost as if she was waiting for something. When she finally came back, she started bagging up my food — and that’s when a manager appeared. Clipboard in hand, the manager came right to the counter area and stood close enough to “supervise,” pretending to be doing paperwork while clearly watching me. She looked over multiple times, and it was obvious her real focus wasn’t her notes — it was me.
My order was supposed to be to-go, but the girl prepared it for dine-in instead. When she brought it over, she asked if I wanted a straw. I told her no, then said, “Actually, this was to-go.” She apologized and said, “Oh my god, sorry,” and I tried to make the moment lighter by saying, “It’s okay, maybe I was distracted,” and gave a small laugh. She didn’t respond. She just looked uncomfortable, avoided eye contact, and moved on as quickly as she could.
I wore sunglasses the entire time, which shouldn’t matter — but judging by their reactions, even that seemed to make them uneasy. I wasn’t loud, rude, or demanding. I simply existed in a way they clearly didn’t expect.
All of the employees involved were white, and their collective discomfort was palpable — the kind of quiet, guarded unease that happens when someone’s presence challenges the invisible comfort zone they’re used to. I came in for food, not to be profiled, stared at, or quietly monitored. My shirt shouldn’t determine how I’m treated as a paying customer.

Read moreService is always great- however- I find the children's play area in a bit of a mess. It's not the first time we've gone as a family and kinda gone 'ew make sure you wash your hands!!' but tonight I witnessed Two accidents and a big spill of soda in the kids play place- one of the accidents being my own kid. There's some steps leading to the big slide and I'm not sure how or why but my child somehow slipped and fell, he kinda wined and got up and shook it off but then as we were eating someone else's child slipped and fell and actually was bleeding from his forehead. All I can say is that the times we've gone the play place it has not been very clean- there's always someone's drink left behind (or like tonight-spilled on the floor) kid's clothes (when no kids are around) or garbage from someone food. I hate not giving good reviews but tonight I was a bit disappointed. The service is always great when you order - everyone is super friendly but maybe also take a look in the kids area. I understand how difficult it must be to keep it clean all the time- but maybe have staff take a look every so often. In the time we were there (almost an hour maybe 45 mins.) NO staff members went to the kid's play area to check if all was ok. So just...
Read moreI don't usually give out 1 star ratings, and I try to give places the benefit of the doubt if possible. I am not exaggerating when I say that literally every time I have gone here for anything it has been disappointing. I have always enjoyed the spicy chicken sandwich that Wendy's offers but for whatever reason this locations version has always been disgusting. It's never fresh, it's dry and on more than one occasion my gut did not survive the aftermath. I have gone back a couple of times hoping that they got it right but that is unfortunately not the case. I hope they see this and change their policy, or ADHERE to the current one because this issue seems to only come from this location.
TL:DR Dry, old, unappetizing breaded chicken sandwiches seem to plague...
