I don't normally write reviews, but I feel Greystones Cafe has some standout issues that don't very well serve the potential of the cafe or the reputation of the adjoining restaurant.
There is a lot I like about this place. Orangeville is lucky in its cafes, and I've been here long enough to enjoy many of them over the decades. Greystones Cafe is a welcome addition. The food is excellent; I really can't compliment the chef highly enough. The atmosphere is clean and bright, and the patio is excellently designed. Moreover, for what presents itself as and often feels like a more "lux" cafe experience, the prices are reasonable.
However, I'm sure it would be disappointing for the chefs to learn that, during recent visits, I've observed quite a few flies making their way onto the exposed food behind the glass. What has been prepared so thoughtfully seems not to be stored with the same degree of care.
I've been coming to this cafe since it opened, and I have to say that the service is inconsistent. During almost 80% of my visits, I feel the staff aren't all that happy to be there and I sometimes feel like I'm a burden on them just for making pretty basic orders—and I don't even complain or mention it when they've gotten the order wrong.
I often eat in, and one thing I've found odd since this cafe opened was that I'm given takeout cups and containers even after having been asked and confirmed that I'll be sitting down. I've sometimes been brought a combination of a disposal cups and beautiful dishware, or ceramic cups and my meal in a paper bag or plastic container. This is a small detail, but given the quality and presentation of Greystones Cafe, it seems like something that should be addressed to me. Perhaps they don't have enough dishes to go around?
Finally, while I don't put anyone on the spot when my order has been misunderstood, it has been happening more and more often of late and I attend often enough to notice.
I'll continue coming here and really appreciate this welcome addition to Orangeville's cafes, but hope to see these...
Read moreGreystones Cafe is a lovely cafe located in Orangeville, adjacent to sister restaurant Greystones Restaurant. The servers were nice and service was efficient.
The space has clean, modern rustic vibes. They also have a great patio with plenty of seating.
There is an extensive selection of sandwiches, salads, baked goods, and beverages. Prices are steep, but quality is evident in everything they make. I recommend the pesto chicken panini ($12) and the pulled pork quesadilla. The famous coconut cream pie ($13 per slice!) was the best I’ve had with a great flaky crust and tons of coconut cream filling and white chocolate shavings. The vanilla latte was delicious.
Would definitely return when in the area. The quality of the food...
Read moreI love the place, the food is good. However it is so damn inconsistent. Their bagels with cream cheese are amazing.. however about 65% the time you just get a barely toasted bagel with absolutely no cream cheese... its like the girl who made it has no clue how to make a bagel with cream cheese. Even Tim Hortons can get that right most of the time. How can you as an employee see this bagel and think "i'll serve this to a customer". If I'm paying $4 for a bagel with cream cheese it would be nice if they weren't so stingy with the amount they put on. Honestly disappointing. I'd probably come in most days if they could actually make them consistently. I wont be back...
