Athens Grill — Restaurant in Ottawa

TLDR: This place doesn't serve greek food, it's beef is actually ground beef or formed meat chunks, and to get more greasy food you'd have to suck the fat out of the fryers at McDonalds. This place is absolute garbage and I would not wish their food on my worst enemies.

I've been to a variety of Greek and Shwarma houses across Ottawa from Stittsville (it's kind of Ottawa) to Downtown. This is the worst, period. No exceptions. The price for sandwiches is average, and I wanted to sample their dishes so I ordered 2 Chicken Souvlaki , 1 Pork, and a Combo Plate for me and my GF. They were out of pork, so I opted for beef instead.

First of all, any shwarma or greek restaurant i've been to in ottawa interprets "beef" as "shaved beef or steak" usually on a rotisserie. Athen's interprets it as Ground Beef packed into a mould. If you've ever cooked ground beef, low grade ground beef makes a lot of grease.

I live 5 minutes away so it doesn't take long to get my food home. When I picked up my order, the grease had soaked through completely. It may have even wrecked a very nice coat I'll have to see. My combo plate which included salad now had grease soaked into the salad. The salad was disgusting so it got thrown out. The only edible part of the dish was the souvlaki chicken which was slightly charred and unmarinated.

The ground beef sandwich was like an extra greasy burger from burger king. I have eaten LESS GREASY food from any fast food joint I have ever been to. The chicken souvlaki sandwich was better but it included these weird tastes which I realized were completely burned green peppers. Congrats guys, you are the FIRST greek restaurant I've been to which doesn't serve Tzatziki, doesn't use thick pita bread, and fries green peppers up for their wraps.

I don't know if this place is a greek place trying to be a shawarma place, or a shawarma place trying to be a greek place, but they are failing on both fronts and I will...

I don't normally write reviews, but I think this one deserves a great one. I unfortunately came close to closing, but I was greeted with a very friendly lady who had the salad station all prepped and ready with fresh looking vegetables and pickled items in beautiful colorful piles. The garlic, hummus and spicy garlic was great. Although she wasn't able to fire up the grill for my beef order, the key here is she tried for me. And she apologized it didn't work but was still able to pile on the chicken and rice and potatoes with a huge portion.

The food was fresh and colourful with the rice still hot and the potatoes just right (not too dry or fried). The chicken was also not too dry like other places. Someone had said accurately that this was more of a fusion/hybrid Greek and Lebanese.

I enjoyed the food even though I was late in ordering close to closing. The lady was super nice and accommodating that I encourage you all to give it a try. For me, the excellent service is what prompted me to write his review because I've tried other Greek or Lebanese places and they're not always as nice or caring as this place (as seen by the beatiful piles of vegetables near closing - you would think they wouldn't care about presentation but they did).
