I'm very sad to have to write this review, because I have been a patron to this restaurant for over 12 years, but after tonight I will not be going back.
They have always had terrible customer service, but the food was delicious and more than made up for it. The best tom yum flavors you could imagine - and that's just the soup. I have ordered the same entrée for 12 years. I love spicy food, and I have asked for it to be the same level of spicy for 10 years, their 3 out of 4 spicy (the first 2 years I didn't know that they would make it hotter than the original menu option which is a 1).
We always used to dine-in, but since COVID we have been ordering takeout. When we were in the restaurant they always used to look at me, a little white girl, and say "are you sure you want to eat this? It's verrrry spicy". Everytime. And everytime I would say "yesss I'm sure, this is how I always order it". And every time I had it in the restaurant (at least 4 times a year for 12 years) it was so delicious that it made up for everything else, even the condescending tones from their staff.
This is now the second occasion that I've ordered the dish for takeout, the same as I always have when dining in the restaurant, where they dumped a jam-sized jar of chillies on the top of the dish ruining all flavor. I like spicy, I like extra spicy, but this was way too much, it just tasted like acid. I'm not the type to complain about the food once I've brought it home or in general, I worked in a restaurant for years and I just don't do it, which is why I didn't call them last time. But this time I had bought dinner for my mum, and she was appalled by the ratio of food to chillies. She thought there must have been an accident. Needless to say, my mother called back to let them know there had been an accident and someone had spilled all the chillies in the restaurant on my dish.
They went on not to say sorry, but to say that that is always how they make it when people ask for this level of spicy and that they asked us if we wanted it this spicy so it was our fault. My mother continued on to say that we've actually been ordering the same dish at the same level of spicy for over 10 years, we have our order numbers memorized, and it's never been inedible like this and that this must have been an accident. Well they argued with with my mother for over 5 minutes, refused to even CONSIDER that there may have been any kind of incident on their end, and blamed her for the inedible food. She wasn't trying to get a refund, she just wanted to let them know.
Very unfortunate. Twelve years of patronage obliterated over terrible customer service and inconsistent food when you order...
Read more1/10. I went to Sukhothai recently to celebrate a friend's birthday, and I was absolutely let down by the trip. The service was appalling, ruining what could have been a lovely evening with the food was adequate in size and had an average flavour.
Our initial thirty-minute wait to make our order was followed by longer delay before our food was delivered. Although the employees repeatedly made eye contact with us, we were ignored. This may have been because the restaurant was busy, which we might have understood if the interactions that followed weren't so terrible.
The real nightmare began after we had finished our meal. While waiting, presumably unnoticed, for someone to offer us the bill, my friend and I decided to share a small donut from the box I had brought as a birthday treat. Our casual conversation was abruptly and loudly interrupted by a waitress, possibly the owner, who stormed over to our table, closed the donut box without any prior conversation, and proceeded to lecture us on how outside food or drink was not allowed. She warned us that we would be charged an additional $5 if we did that again, as they offer desserts on their menu.
We were taken aback by her sudden intrusion and condescending tone, but we apologized as we didn't know their policy, and explained that it was my friend’s birthday treat and it‘s only a few bites left. Unfortunately, she continued her lecture for another good five minutes, treating us like school children being schooled on house rules, despite our polite affirmations that we understood.
She was unprofessional and rude throughout the entire encounter, and she finished it off with a phony smile and immediately back with the bill without our asking for it.
If you choose to visit sukhuthai, maybe try opening your own can of soda; perhaps the speedy attendance to tell you off will save you some time from their otherwise slow service. Personally, I will be avoiding this restaurant in the future to spare myself from enduring more insincere smiles and...
Read moreI have been going to this restaurant for over 15 years. The food is excellent but over the years the prices have gone up and up. The portions are not large and they charge a fine dining price for everything including plain white rice. Last time I was in they had come out with yet another new menu. I could not believe the large increases in price. Some of the small appetizers went up $1.50 so you are basically paying $7 for 2 small skewers of chicken, or 2 of the smallest shrimp springrolls you have ever seen. Most main course dishes are almost $20. For 2 people to go out, it would cost well over $100, and that's without alcoholic drinks. For me that's way too much. So, great food, way too expensive. 2025 unfortunately this is going to be my last review of one of my favorite restaurants. The prices just go up and up. They don't actually reflect reality. The owner drives 2 Porsches. $30 for a pad thai. It's noodles. I have been patronizing this reataurant since I was a kid. I saw the growth over the years. I feel the owner has saved up enough money and just wants to see what he can get away with. It surprises me that they still have any clients at all. But there are still some rich people in and around bells corners. The food is great but I'm going to get my stuff from other places that charge 80% less for the same stuff. Sad to see you go. Greed wins every time! Check out something different! 2025 update. imagine spending over $33 for a dish a noodles? (Padthai) Going since is was 12 now I'm 44 yo. I can't afford to go to this place anymore. To bad. Great food. Ridiculous prices. Sad. Just went to a thai food truck in Carleton place the dishes are exactly half the price (not as good). The owner wants to drive his Porsches into retirement and doesn't care about what he charges. This place will be...
