Went there with my wife because we asked around about the best places for wings in Westboro. This had the majority of the recommendations. We were quite surprised when they arrived plain with only dipping sauce. I think the majority of people prefer a wing with sauce basted into it. We ordered the BBQ, which we were not crazy about the sauce - too smoky. I'm more of a Bulls Eye kind of guy. Needless to say, we still ate them and to each their own. But I would not make another special trip for them again. I also ordered the pulled pork nachos - which were terrible. The "pulled pork" was more like 6" long thick strips of pork that I had to pull apart myself. There was so much sauce on the pork that it made the chips soggy and not very edible. After about 5 minutes of battling through the slimy mess, I sent them back. It was a bit of a fight to get them taken off the bill as the Manager only wanted to offer a discount. For what? My 5 bites I took? Had it not been for the nice atmosphere and great selection of beer, I probably would have given it 2 stars. I'll return there for beer and maybe something else - but definitely not the wings or pulled pork nachos!! P.S - if someone is looking for Granville Island Lions Winter ale on tap - they have it!!! (During the winter of course). It is a rarity in these neck of the woods as it's a Vancouver based company. It's by far my favorite winter...
Read moreJust had dinner at Churchill's tonight with a friend. The server was plesant and told us service would be slow because they were busy. Fair enough. We were fine with that since my companion and I were catching up. He asked me if I would like another drink and I said "yes". It never came. I wasn't too bothered because I was chatting with my friend and didn't care enough to ask where it was because I was enjoying my company. We got our bills and paid while chatting and I forgot to check the itemized list on my bill. On the way home I looked at my bill and saw I was charged for both drinks. I called to let them know what happened. The server, kind but not adept at customer service, responded with "well I brought it to you. The bar tender said he made it. It's your word against mine." Which seemed like an odd and combative take. I let him know I wasn't pleased with his approach and he offered to do something but for me, the damage had been done. Having worked in the service industry, myself, for years I was offended by how this was handled. It was one drink, not the end of the world, I just wanted to let them know what happened because charging people for things that they never received is just wrong and they should be aware of it. I have been a loyal customer for years and this was a favorite neighbourhood haunt. Sad to not allow myself to come back after such a...
Read moreRecently we went to Churchill's. It went something like this... We ordered two sodas, I ordered the soup to start then the daily risotto. My boyfriend ordered the side ribs. The soup came with dry toast on the side. Not even an option of butter. And apparently Churchill's thinks it's food is so perfect, they don't have to even put salt and pepper on the tables. I would have liked some, but the waitress was no where to be seen. (She was also never available to refill our $3 soft drinks.) Thirty-five minutes later, dinner came. My risotto was alright (once I finally got the salt & pepper) but the ribs were AWEFUL!!! Hard as rock, red in the middle with massive amounts of fat on the backs. Isn't the meat supposed to practically fall off of ribs? When we asked the waitress to confirm that they were actually cooked through, she brought them back from the kitchen, unchanged, and said that's the way they make them. The fat on these was just disgusting. Half an inch thick. She did offer to bring something else, but we were now an hour into this dinner and had somewhere else we had to be. And even though we made it very clear we were dissatisfied, a manager never came to see us. Well, we will never go back...
