Quite possibly the worst service I've ever had in a restaurant. We went in after a long day of travelling, sat out on the patio because the hockey game was playing at a very loud volume. We had to wait 10 minutes before a server came to see us, and after he took our drink order he walked off the patio to have a smoke and chat with his friend in plain sight of us. Once he was done socializing, he came back to our table to ask what we had ordered for drinks.

It then took a while for the drinks to arrive, and even longer before we could order food. The server shared that two other servers had quit and one had been fired so he was working a split shift. Not sure if this is true, or if he was trying to make excuses for the inattentive service.

Once we had eaten the subpar food we were given, it took about 15 minutes for our wayward server to make his way back to us, and then we had to wait for our bill. It took around 20-25 minutes of sitting in the cold, and going inside twice to ask about it. The last time he was mopping up a broken glass while other staff stood and chatted.

After we payed, the server then commented on what he felt was an underserved small tip. As a server myself, I'm appalled that he feels it's okay to not only comment on a tip which is not mandatory for customers to give, but also that he should be rewarded for the terrible service we received.

This was my first and only night in Ottawa, and while I'm certain there is more to offer elsewhere, with much better service, it certainly put a bad taste...

Our take-out order was not 100% accurate, but overall the food was decent. Other things dropped this pub down in the star rating for us.

We're a high-risk household during this pandemic which means we have to be extra critical of every decision we make and every interaction we undertake now that society-level protections are gone and everyone's making their own risk-assessment-based decisions. We saw the following statement on the pub's own website: "STAFF WILL STILL BE WEARING MASKS, CUSTOMERS ARE NOT REQUIRED BUT WELCOME TO" and made a decision to try this particular pub based largely on that, given the medical situation in our house and the lower risk level in interactions where both parties are masked. When my husband arrived to pick-up our order, not a single staff member was masked and the one he had to interact with most made a snarky comment that seemed to be in reference to the fact that my husband was still masking. We understand that masks are no longer a requirement in our province but as the pandemic is ongoing and people are making important decisions related to their health based on company policies at this point rather than governmental ones, we were very disappointed about the misinformation on the company's website. We were also very disappointed in the attitude and rudeness of the staff member handling...

Living in the area, I’ve been here several times and there hasn’t yet been a time when I’ve received good service - if served at all. There was a time when I waited 40 minutes after being sat before I left because our server never came by because she was too busy taking shots and chatting with the bartender. Yesterday, some friends and I waited 20 minutes for initial service, we got 1 beer and we never saw our server again for a refill. We sat for 30 minutes until we finally got her attention to ask for our separate bills. We waited a total of 40 minutes to receive 1 bill. During that 40 minutes, we watched another table of her’s finish they meal, request their bill and have her bill them out before ever giving us another glance. When we asked again if she could split the bill she said that her system was unable to print separate bills and began to complain to us loudly enough to gain attention from other surrounding tables. I do have sympathy for this server however, considering the only other visible server was so wasted she would frequently stop dead in the middle of the floor staring off into the distance - barely able to collect herself enough to stand. I’ve had enough and won’t be returning. From what I’ve seen and heard around town - it’s shocking that you’re still...

I likely wouldn't choose this place again. The pub itself is divided into a couple of different sections where you can have a sit-down meal and watch non-sports, sit at the bar, or sit in an area close to live music with TVs that have sports on. I didn't like the burger and fries. With a beer it came to ~$24. I'm not sure if it was just the time of day we went, but the burger was very dry and the fries are carbon copy of McDonald's, and unfortunately I'm not a fan of shoestring. We also had interesting service that I really didn't understand. It seems like at a certain point in the night, all daily specials cease to apply, even though the menus we received had paper inserts with specials. These weren't happy hour specials, they were daily and I just was a bit confused why they wouldn't either make it a happy hour, take the special paper insert out of the menu, or honour the specials on the menu. "Everyday is special at Deacon's", just not when we were there. All in all, I've had far better experiences at other restaurants, and better food from fast food chains. Beer was cold at least.

They should be ashamed of themselves to call their Fish and Chips “Scottish”. I've been to Scotland and England and this comes nowhere close. First of all the chips. They are very skinny, almost like McDonald's fries. Real Scottish or British chips are thick sliced potatoes. Now even if they were skinny but taste good it would be fine but unfortunately they just don't taste good. Secondly, they served the Fish and Chips with some weird coleslaw. I have never been served Fish and Chips with coleslaw before. I'm not sure if this is a substitution for mushy peas but it is a very odd choice. Finally comes the fish. The fish batter is greasy and flavorless. It honestly reminds me of something I could buy out of a frozen box. I know this is a very harsh review but I just want the quality of food to improve in Ottawa. Places like this shouldn't be getting away with such high reviews when In reality the food is below average.

Visited with a group of friends. Ordered the a variety of appetizers, Steak and Haggis. The appetizers were excellent. Well prepared and right portions. The Steak was okay, the cut wasn’t the best but it was good. It came with a salad, but I think it was missing a side of vegetables. Beer and spirit selection is outstanding. I recommend the Jekyl beer. I have always wanted to try Haggis and this was my first chance. It was fantastic! The sautéed mushrooms and onions, with the gravy over a bed of mashed potatoes was outstanding. I highly recommend!! Everyone else enjoyed their choices. Next time I will try the bangers and mash. A great place to try some traditional Scottish cuisine. Update: I tried the bangers and mash and it was excellent! Picture added. Great place!
