We went there on Saturday last week and it was a great experience even though we waited 25 minutes for the food. We decided to go again two days later on Monday and it was the worst experience ever. We ordered 5 original sandwiches (2 chicken and 3 mixed) and 3 individual orders of Fries. After waiting for 30 minutes, they brought out the food to us and it was all jammed in 1 paper bag. As soon as I grabbed the bag and started walking, the bag ripped and all the food fell on the ground. Luckily the sandwiches were in boxes so nothing happened to them but the fries were all over the sidewalk. One of the ladies that work there was bringing the food to another customer asked if I needed assistance, I asked her to bring me another bag. she asked if I need anything replaced it, I asked her for a replacement of the 3 individual fries. She brought me a new paper bag to put the sandwiches in, I put the sandwiches in and went inside to check on the replacement fries, the new bag started ripping and the food almost fell again on the ground. When I went inside, I heard the kitchen staff arguing with her as to why she offered me replacement fries. I was upset that they are arguing with her because they should've put the food in 2 paper bags to start with. The sandwich boxes are bulky and heavy and no paper bag can hold 5 sandwich boxes and 3 individual fries. I asked to speak with the manager, the manager that came over to talk to me was very rude and told me in a rude way that he can't give me replacement fries and that he will give me back the money that I paid for the fries. I was really upset that a manager will deal this way with a customer. A few minutes later another manager came to talk to me, he was much nicer than the first manager and offered me the replacement fries. The treatment of the first manager was not an acceptable, especially since German Doner Kabob is a big franchise in Europe. It was their mistake that they are jamming a lot of food into 1 paper bag. When we got home, we opened the boxes and couldn't figure out which sandwiches were chicken and which ones were mixed meat, there were no labels on the boxes to figure out which is what. Also, the food wasn't as great as the other day (Saturday). The sandwiches were all soggy and we didn't enjoy them. I am not sure if this is because the sandwiches fell when the bag ripped. It was a horrible...
Read moreI have been wanting to try this place for a while. On a nice spring day I went in for a late lunch. The person at the cash informed me they were entirely out of meat and only had the vegetarian burger. I went for it, as there was no other option. I added fries and a root beer at $18 pre-tip. There was only one other table and they knew the staff. It took 15 minutes, which seemed kinda long as there was no one else waiting for food. I was in the resutaurant for 40 minutes and there was no walking or pick uber orders. The employee handed me the bag, I wanted to eat in cause I was hungry. I sat down and opened it up, no napkins, dips or drink. I went to the cash and waited to request these items, the worker came from the kitchen area and seemed annoyed. The burger was tasty but sloppy, the lettuce could have been broken up a little more, the fries needed a minute longer in the frier. The food was alright but for the hype of the place and the price point I expected a better quality experience. Half way through my meal a few young staff came in and were excited. I really enjoyed their enthusiasm and thought about how they had their work cut out for them, likely having to prepare a bunch of meat for the dinner rush. Their loud conversation could be heard from the back to my window seat, suddenly it turned to discussing sexual escapades. Something meant more for the clubs? I tried to enjoy the rest of the meal but it was a real turn off. ~Hello GDK, You've asked me to contact you regarding a recent visit to your establishment. The link you posted did not work .I appreciate your reply back, though you should be aware there was no pick 'uber' orders or walk in during the time I was...
Read moreRecently, my craving for doner kebab led me to visit German Doner Kebab in Ottawa, a spot I've frequented several times before. However, this time, I couldn't help but notice a few changes that left me with mixed feelings.
Let's start with the positives. The service at German Doner Kebab remains commendable. The staff was friendly, attentive, and ensured a pleasant dining experience. Additionally, the ambiance of the place was still inviting, with a clean and well-maintained interior.
However, my disappointment arose when I sampled the beef in the kebabs. There seemed to be a noticeable decline in the quality compared to my previous visits. The beef, which used to be a highlight for me, lacked the same depth of flavor and tenderness that I had come to expect. This aspect certainly detracted from the overall enjoyment of the meal.
Another aspect that caught my attention was the significant increase in prices. While I understand that inflation affects businesses, the extent of the price hike was surprising. Paying over $23 for a combo, and a total bill of $54 for two combos excluding tip, felt disproportionate to the experience and value received.
In summary, while German Doner Kebab in Ottawa still maintains its cleanliness, good service, and pleasant ambiance, the decline in beef quality and steep price increase are notable concerns. Therefore, I would rate it 3 stars for food quality and 4 stars for service, reflecting the mixed experience I encountered during my...
