This Saturday afternoon at 5:00 p.m, I made a long awaited return to one of the best buffet restaurants around (my 11th time dining in for the buffet, at this Somerset St. West location), where I was warmly welcomed! Chef Nitin was quick to recognize a familiar face, and even suggested that I sit next to the window (on a bright, summer day). I was greeted cordially by all four servers (I really like the black dress shirt/black necktie/black dress pants combination); they treat their guests like family. A new chef had prepared this evening’s buffet, which was just as sumptuous as the previous meals that I’ve eaten here (dinner buffet is $29.95/weekday lunch is $24.95 • East India Company has had decades of experience serving buffets, in a seamless fashion: the eighty or so lucky customers that arrived this evening can attest to that!): my favorites are the buffet-sized Samosas (which I drizzle over with tamarind sauce; there’s chutneys aplenty at the spice table), and the tangy green bell peppers and peas in the Potato Jahlfrezi. Kudos to the new chef! Whether you’re just stopping by, or had arranged a meeting ahead of time with guests, this will soon become your must-eat place! Congratulations to General Manager Anish, for the non-stop...
Read morePLEASE READ THIS!! Went last night to this place. My Indian friends love this place and have been there numerous times. My visit was a weird one. The food was great and so was the decor. What made my visit terrible was my Mom is allergic to peppers and spices.
She asked the manager if they had a dish that did not have any spices. He said he would tell the chief not to put any spices. The chicken dish came and she ate it and realized that there was a red spice/pepper in it. She then complained to the manager and he seemed confused and the manager said "I will ask the chief". He then said "no peppers". I told my mom not to eat it. She tried it again and she was gasping, and her mouth was burning. She went to him and manager said by lying "that there was no spices/peppers." He said next time call us and we will do something special for you and Ill give you my business card. Well, he never did. He seemed to be very immature. The waitress was very nice and was really cornered for my mom.
The food somehow for me did not agree with me. I think it was the creamy stuff in the food as I am lactose intolerant I was better until he next morning. Worst experience with Indian food.
NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE if you are allergic...
Read moreI tried the buffet for dinner. It's about $30 per person before tax/tip. They charge like $3 extra for each naan as it is not included in a buffet somehow. The only reason to try a buffet is for variety but this did not have much variety and of the variety they had, everything tasted pretty bad.
The butter chicken was bland, dry and not creamy. It seems it was left out on the hot plate for a couple of days as the chicken was very overcooked. The other chicken dishes were very dry as well and impossible to chew. Pretty much everything tasted very old
Their appetizer consisted of generic salad, samosa, pakora and panipuri, all of which were very subpar. The panipuri was warm when it should be served cold so it tasted weird.
The deserts were: gulab jamun which tasted good (probably not made in house). random chai cookies (??) but no tea some weird tasting cheesecake rice pudding melon and pineapple chapman icecream
There are many better Indian restaurants where you can pay per plate and get better tasting fresh food and get full without hitting the $40 per person you'll get charged here.
2 stars because the manager (?) and...
