Golden Capital — Restaurant in Ottawa

I haven't been to Golden Capital for a while, so I walked in today, while it was 35C. They don't have AC, but there was a fan. I had to return to my car to wait for my order because it was so hot.

Anyway, I ordered the "FOR 2 (B)", which is "4 Egg Rolls,Fried Won Ton, Chicken Chow Mein, Garlic Spare Ribs, Chicken Fried Rice, Cookies" I got it home to discover that instead of Chicken Chow Mein, we got Chicken Chop Suey. There were a few little bits of chicken, but the other was 95% bean sprouts. There was not a single baby corn or water chestnut. So, we ate the few nibbles of chicken and threw the rest out. Not a great start.

There was no detectable chicken in the Chicken Fried Rice. The rice was good, but it would have been nice if there had been chicken in it.

We all agreed that it was the worst Chinese food we've had in a long time. My wife noted that it would have been a good meal for a vegetarian! Some meat would have been nice.

Incredibly...

Good portions sizes and fair prices. We ordered Cantonese Chow Mein, General Tso and the Appetizer Platter. The order came with 3 free eggrolls, a small chicken fried rice, and a cup of white rice, for free.

I'm not sure if an ingredient was left out of the General Tso, but ours tasted like salty chicken. Really good chicken though. Great quality, big pieces. Some vegetables, but not too many! Definitely a good meat to veg ratio

Catonese Chow Mein was good. Same good quality chicken, fair size shrimp and moist pork. Lots of fresh Veg. Would order again

I think the appetizer platter is a great idea! It had a few chicken balls, fried wantons, fried shrimp and sliced bbq pork. Plus the 3 free eggrolls! Also the batter they use is awesome. It's pretty greasy, of course it's deep fried!, but it's nice and crispy!

In conclusion, definitely worth...

Food was overcooked. Skimpy ingredients. Not fresh. Strange odour when opening dishes. Four of us did not enjoy what we ordered at all. During night and next morning we felt sick.

Avoid Golden Capital. Used to be very good. New owners ... decline in quality and cooking very apparent. Customer service if there is a problem non- existent.

We were extremely disappointed. Went back next day to complain and was treated like a criminal. Determined to make is our fault. Very strange behaviour and reaction to our unhappiness. Even suggested we drank too much with meal. Three of us don't drink at all.

Refused to give us their names. I Wiil l be reporting to city health services. And BBB.
