I got a raspberry cheese cake for my birthday. The cake was not sweet and tasted very good (but not cheap though). We tried their croissants before and they were very good. Next time, we will try their chocolate cake and hope that their chocolate cake won't be too sweet and heavy.
June 20, 2021 - Our son got us a Chocolate Mousse cake for Father's Day. The cake was very delicious!
Nov. 5, 2021 - All the cakes I tried in the past were bought by my son and his GF. I have never visited the store myself. I made a visit to the store to check out and took some photos. The store inside is very clean. The store also has a spacious area for people to drink their coffee and enjoy their pastries/sandwich (the area can also be booked for special event). I wanted to buy their Chocolate Triple mousse cake again. Too bad that the store didn't have it because they didn't have the ingredients due to transportation issue from COVID. So, we bought a Mocha Cake to try out. Among all the cakes we tried, the Mocha Cake is my least favorite one (I found too much cream used). But the chocolate cake inside the cream was good. I was told that I can pre-order the cake 2 days in advance and they can customize the cake to my desired sweetness (i.e., less sweet). This is good to know.
Nov. 8, 2022 - My son bought me another chocolate cake from this store. Delicious as usual.
May 17, 2023 - Another triple chocolate cake bought by my son and his fiancé. 6" is just the right size for us. Always satisfied...
Read moreHad an opportunity to stop yesterday around lunch time after reading about the place on CBC. Tried the croissant (last one they had on the counter), a baguette (again cold, likely baked 5 or 6 hours earlier) some pastry and a ham and Brie sandwich. Although the he croissant was cold and looked sad, likely from been on the counter for hours, it still tasted great, the sandwich was wonderful and the baguette I took home was very well made, chewy and tasty. The pastry was ok, wasn't much to select from, but worth repeating. One thing was missing, not enough to chose from and not fresh enough, like you would expect from a Parisian boulangerie. The problem with this place is the remote and out of the way location. Seems the owners opted for low overhead and depended on low volume sales to offer a very tasty product. However, Ottawa desperately needs a good place like this where the owner has the talent and ability to create a very tasty product, just not at this out of the way location. If this place was in Westboro for instance it would be great. Walk in customers would flood the place daily and maybe encourage a larger volume of baguettes, croissant and maybe a better variety of pastry. The croissant and baguette I bought tasted authentic, although lacking freshness and selection. I will definitely try this place again on my way to town, but early to make sure I get...
Read moreUsed to spend a lot here. It's still not bad but I feel it used to be better and don't visit this place regularly anymore. The overall quality declined after the pandemic started, as with many food businesses, but the prices are high. Service is hit and miss. Sometimes they're friendly and other times I've been ignored. In the last year I was there eating a crepe and some employees were having a screaming/crying argument in the back. Concerning. Though even being understanding of one off experiences and the difficult times we've had, I've also had some disappointing ordered cake experiences so I now trust other bakeries for my events. I liked their selection of frozen and prepared stuff for the convenience, but the value just isn't there. It's too expensive for stuff I can easily make for myself or find better value elsewhere. Sometimes the little pastries have a good selection, other times it's too many tarts, or too-similar little cakes. The kouign-amanns themselves I feel used to be better too. I'd like to see some dacquoise or Japonaise cakes in there because those are the kinds of things I'm too lazy to make myself but would pay a pro good money for. I didn't enjoy the filled croissants I've had. If I could get a well made espresso or latte here with a lunch and fresh warm k-a I might have a reason to come in regularly as is, or perhaps if the prices...
