Jamaican Patties The best product, by far, that I’ve discovered so far in Ottawa—and there are a few other exceptional sellers in and around town. Very, very good product!!! Exceptional! This morning I visited the Nu Caribbean storefront venue located at 858 Merivale Rd. after reading great online reviews of their Jamaican patties. Sampled one patty there, and left with three dozen to distribute amongst family members. 1 dozen mild/2 dozen spicy hot. What made the difference today? The customer-centric care that the Chef/Proprietor provided from the moment I walked in the restaurant. The pastry’s flavour, texture (flakiness) and the generous amount of meat filling inside and its flavour. My Jamaican born wife (Spanish Town, St. Catherine) suggested that these patties are better than any she’s had in Ottawa (and South Miami) to-date. Reminded her of Tastee Ltd. patties in Jamaica—her childhood favourites. Bravo/kudos to the Nu Caribbean team at 858 Merivale Rd. In Ottawa near to Westgate Shopping centre. ____ An Additional 5 Star Review A supplemental update to previous 5 Star Review for 3 dozen Jamaican Patties. Today, 10 July 2024, my wife and I picked up a Curry Goat, Ox-Tail take-out meal and a dozen more Jamaican Patties (Spicy). Great service and outstanding products Chef—Kudos to you! Side Note: We also added our own fresh Scotch Bonnet pepper once we got home—for the fun of it.

Can't get a newer hidden gem than Nu Caribbean food truck. Owners Neil and Chef Sean have only been open a few weeks serving up some delicious Caribbean food. They will be located during food truck season in the parking lot of Calvary Church on Cyrville rd. You might recognize the truck, it was the original double decker bus we saw during festivals and I believe in Orleans also. The owner has decided to go into the rental business and now the trucks new occupant is Nu Caribbean. I got the caribbean fried chicken, with rice and peas, the chicken had a crunchy outside and a juicy on the inside. I also got a curry chicken roti which was not overly spicy and the roti was soft and chewy! And there was no way I could leave without grabbing a few jamaican patties. Neil said they get them freshly made from Toronto, and we loved the flaky pastry and the flavours on the inside were delicious. We were very happy with our meals and the flavours did not disappoint, Neil event gave us some oxtail gravy on the side to try with the fried chicken, where has this been all my life!! This food truck is a must try, run don't walk!! #supportlocal #ottawafoodiestalker #ottawafoodtruckstalker

This may be the worst Caribbean food in the city. First of all they got the order wrong I ordered 1lb each of Jerk Chicken, Oxtail, and BBQ jerk chicken and probably received half of the food because they decided to send a 2 meat combo instead of what I ordered. The food is flavourless across the board. Rice and peas was mushy and bland. Jerk chicken was old and weak, as if it sat under a heatlamp for 3 hours. BBQ Jerk chicken was the same with some kind of sauce on it. Beef patties are store bought - really the only good thing about the meal; it actually had some flavour even though they came soggy. And what kind of Carribean restaurant doesn't have plantains as a side order? Do not recommend. Go to Ocho Rios or Run2Patty instead.

I was in Nu Caribbean last night with a friend to do take out. I asked for a goat curry and roti, with the curry on the side. It cost $16.00. Tini, the owner rudely shook her head because I asked for it on the side. I got it anyway. We got home and was totally shocked at the pathetically tiny serving. There we 5 tiny pieces of goat, mostly bones and curry sauce barely covering the bottom of this tiny 3x3 take out container. I called her and asked her why I had such a tiny serving of curry that was insufficient for even 1/4 to 1/2 roti. She was quite rude and said that this is what is normally served and I can't expect a pound of goat and good evening. Then she hung up the phone. I took photos. I wish I could find a way to post them. This is totally cheating the customers. Anyway, lousy, arrogant rude service and super tiny serving. Myself, family and friends Will not be going back there!

This is in RESPONSE TO THE OWNER'S RESPONSE. Tini, you said you kindly explained but you did not. And you were absolutely not gracious whatsoever! In fact you were very rude and then you hung up the phone. I also wanted to bring to your attention that there was no way that there was 2-3oz of meat in that container, (I wish if I could find a way to post the photos of what was really inside the take out container). I also have no issues with the bones but I do have an issue with getting mostly bones in the 5 tiny pieces of meat that you gave me. You also said that there is usually lots of gravy in the serving. Well, why did you give me gravy that just covered the bottom of the 3x3 take out container?? And by no means was I mislead into thinking that I should get more than the regular serving because I asked for my curry on the side. I just expect a fair portion like everyone else. FYI I do go to all the other Caribbean restaurants from Toronto to Ottawa and ask for my curry on the side because I don't like soggy roti. But I have never gotten such a pathetic serving before. And actually mentioning that my friend got more than a pound of chicken was a very poor way of trying to right a wrong of cheating me out of a normal serving. Your partner Sean, the chef, called my home after I left my review, and spoke with me about it. He apologized several times about your behaviour and the tiny serving that you gave me. This is totally unacceptable Tini, and as I said before, myself, family and friends will not be coming back to your restaurant. We will go elsewhere! There is so many other Caribbean restaurants around that will not cheat us but give us a...

I tried ordering from the restaurant for takeout. The person on the phone told me to order from Uber Eats due to COVID restrictions. I went on Uber Eats app and began to enter my order. The app then told me that I had to pick my first side of which there was a single option, rice and peas. That was fine, I selected rice and peas. I then had to select a second side dish. The problem arose when the app indicated that the two options for the second side dish were both sold out, therefore, I was unable to select either option. Because I was unable to select a second side dish, I wasn't able to proceed with my order. Seeing as how the app wasn't working, I called back to inquire about the problem explaining to him that I couldn't order my food. He rudely asked "so what's the problem?" so I calmly repeated my answer to him. He kept repeating "what's the problem, if it's on the menu you can order it" in an irate tone of voice. Trying to repeat my intention but with different wording in case it was a communication error, I tried over and over to tell him that I just couldn't order from the app. Finally I had enough and told him that I was going to order elsewhere. He said "good, k bye". Never going to try ordering from there again. Very disappointed as it is my wife's birthday and we were so looking forward to trying a new place, especially with what seemed like good reviews on the food. Clearly the customer service is...
