My background is Polish/Ukrainian so pierogis are something I’ve grown up loving. When I saw this restaurant I got very excited to try it since it’s dedicated solely to pierogis. I find that not many places offer them and what they do offer is a commercialized version. I personally love a good old fashioned pierogi with bacon, caramelized onions and loads of sour cream. I decided to try the “Baba’s” which gave me some excitement that it would be that traditional, old school pierogi dish. I added extra sour cream and the double smoked bacon. I found it a little odd those didn’t already come with it with a name like “Baba’s”. I like both boiled and fried but felt like fried today. I wasn’t completely impressed. I honestly couldn’t tell you if they were made fresh or frozen, but they were quite dry so I’m leaning toward frozen. There was not enough toppings on it at all. The shredded cheese just threw me off because I’m not at all used to having it with traditional pierogi. Green onions were there basically for presentation, they add nothing to the dish. Overall not the worst pierogis I’ve ever had, but I’ve definitely had and made better. Maybe with the other types of toppings they might be better, but if the pierogi isn’t good I can’t imagine it’s going to get better. I did get it through delivery so I may try to get it fresh another time to give it a second chance and try the boiled.
Edit: I tried again with the boiled and it was much better. I also had them delivered but to my work which is very close to the restaurant so they probably were a little fresher. Still a little bummed that bacon and sour cream doesn’t automatically come with the traditional, but the pierogis themselves were delicious and I was left satisfied. I added an extra star for...
Read moreI was really looking forward to trying Loaded Pierogi but unfortunately ended up quite disappointed in my first order.
We had to wait over half an hour for our order, from the time we placed the order to the time it was ready. When we got home we realized 2 out of 3 items in our order were wrong. We tried calling the restaurant to figure out what happened, and it took over 6 calls because nobody was answering their phone. Once we got through, they told us our order had been mixed up with a different order, and to come back and get the proper order. We did get the correct order eventually after going back to the store.
On the plus side, we got to try way more menu items since we got to keep the wrong order afterwards. Unfortunately, most of the food was mediocre. I got the Wild Mushroom pierogies and thought the toppings were really good, but the pierogies themselves were boring. Toppings on the Buffalo Chicken pierogies were alright, but mostly just tasted of salt. The fried cauliflower bites were so salty I didn't even want to eat them, and it was a tiny amount of food for $7. The Montreal poutine was mostly just dry french fries with a bit of salty gravy and a small amount of melted curd, not sure what's "Montreal" about it. I thought the brownies were gross, but my partner liked them a lot. One good thing is that everything was crispy and not soggy at all. It's also interesting that you can pick whatever base you want, and choose the toppings to go with it, so the menu is quite flexible.
Overall the service was not great, and the price of the food is way too high for what you get. You're paying restaurant prices for what tastes like fast food, and the flavour just isn't there on most of the items, unless your favourite...
Read moreLoaded pierogi is my favourite place back in Toronto. I wanted to have it here in Ottawa twice. And BOTH times they scammed me. Continuously not giving sour cream to my order, and whenever I add chorizo sausage, and sour cream” I was missing both the original sour cream that came with the dish and the additional sour cream, and they also missed my sausage. I wouldn’t say anything or write a review if it was one time, it continuously happened, and honestly it’s ridiculous! Especially when the receipt they stapler on the bag literally says what I ordered. Like are there not any manager or staff that is competent to read the order before giving it away to the driver to deliver. Like it’s insane how this can happen again and again and again. And I’m the one who has to deal with Uber refund myself from their mess up. Terrible terrible. I called the store and asked if they have sour cream in the store, and they replied with yes we do, so I asked then why is it then my order never came with one, when in Uber it clearly says “smoking pig roast with sour cream”. Like? It’s infuriating to wait 1-2 hours for delivery just for them the mess up the details of the order. Seeing the trend of my experience I truly believe I’m not the only one experiencing this from...
