Based on a recommendation from a few friends and their reviews/pictures; I was really looking forward to trying their food.
However, my experience today was anything but enjoyable. I ordered an Eggs B, Two sandwiches, kids breakfast and a hot chocolate to go.
After about 10 mins, the sandwiches were ready and I was advised that the other food would take a few more minutes.
When I went to pick up my hot chocolate, it was in a regular cup. I asked the lady (Asian lady) that the order was all to go; she without saying a word turned around, grabbed a to go cup and dumped the hot chocolate in it, mixing the whip cream etc in the process. The only words she said to me, while giving it back to me were “it just won’t be as pretty”. It’s probably the least courteous thing she could have said to me, instead of simply making a new drink and rectifying the situation.
After waiting a total of 36 minutes, I approached the counter and asked the same lady, if she can give me an update on the order. She looks over to the brown bag on the counter and hands it over.
I was a bit frustrated at this point, because I had seen another employee (long haired gentleman), put this bag down 5-10 mins ago on the counter. When I asked the lady, why they didn’t notify me of the order being ready? She was quick to tell me “he must have called it out”. I just responded by saying that it is silly for her to say so, when I’m sitting right across the counter, staring at them while waiting for them to call/notify me.
I ended up throwing the hot chocolate on my way out. When reaching home, we realized that there was no protein or toast included with kids breakfast (it was just an egg and potato fries).
For a restaurant that charges premium pricing for their food/drinks, the complete lack of empathy and mannerliness shown was astounding. This coupled with missing food items, and improperly prepared drink gives me no reason to go back...
Read moreIt's a great location for people who live in Beaverbrook, but parking can be a bit tight with all the construction around. The inside feels airy and very spacious with the high ceilings and lots of windows. The food selection is eclectic but can be misleading. There's a brunch option that calls for guacamole with eggs on a rosti, that arrives looking like a big pile of arugula salad. One of the deserts looks like it might be a souffle but turned out to be a cheesecake that another customer, who doesn't normally like cheesecake, found delicious. The coffee's been very good, but I'm not a coffee connoisseur. One morning that I was there, I had to send my eggs back twice, because I asked for over easy and they came over hard. It turned out it was a misunderstanding, and the third time was the charm. The tables are a little close together and the chairs are a bit flimsy, but they also have a bar and an area with big comfy chairs and low coffee tables. I've seen people sitting with their laptops working away, so it doesn't seem like they have any problem with people settling in for a few hours to work. They also have events scheduled in the evenings like storytelling, when I assume the bar is open, but I haven't attended those. Interesting place, and I like places that will innovate with food even if they don't always get it quite right. I will...
Read moreReally disappointed with our first experience. While the atmosphere was wonderful, the food and service really left us wondering if we would ever go back.
Food came one piece at a time, and not all together. This is ridiculous. While we were only a party of 2, one part of one meal came (omelette/salad), then part two (toast, and bacon) then 10 mins later, the second meal (Eggs Benny). I had requested eggs runny, they were FULLY cooked, and with sauce on the side, they came DROWNED in sauce, which was overpowering the whole dish. It was awful, and cold.
I'm not sure why my order was not made or presented as requested, or why the order came to us in 3 parts, but it was not a pleasant experience.
What we did enjoy, was the London Fogs (best I've ever had!) and the atmosphere of the cafe. BUt I really struggled with the food, the accuracy and the timing of our meals.
If I were to make a suggestion to present the whole order at one time, so that the meals remain warm, and one person isn't waiting while watching the other eat, it would have made for a much better experience.
If I were to go back, I would probably simply order a tea or coffee to go, since the food left very little to be desired. It's really too bad... your reviews were so off the mark for our...
