i've been to this place many times since it's opened and i will say i really like the food and the vibe and everything honestly. my friends and i always like to come here since its like a 3 in one place. it has savoury food, many many dessert options, and lots of fun drinks. even if you aren't really hungry or don't like certain things i would say this place has something for everyone. my sister has allergies and they were very understanding about it. and all of their food is halal which is so good. the vibe there is sort of like a diner and it has lots of bright colours which is fun to look at. and it's right next to a movie theatre and its usually open late especially on weekends. but i will say it's always so crowded and the service isn't the greatest. i have had many not so great experiences at this restaurant. the worst experience ive had would be the time my friends and i were seated and it took so long until we could find a waiter to take our order. it took longer to find a waiter than for them to prepare food. after we had gotten our food we wanted to order dessert and it again took us so very long to get our waiter's attention. and i'm not talking like 5-10 minutes it was like almost half an hour :/ after that. we wanted a to go box for our food and for them to take the plates off the table. they only gave us a to go box and then it took another waiter to pick up our plates like way after. and then when that waiter came we couldn't find our to go boxes because they had taken them while we weren't paying attention. and then we had to wait even longer to actually order our dessert. and then even longer to get the cheque. believe it or not it probably took the longest for us to actually pay. and that is what i mean by it being chaotic cause the place seems very hectic and i would say they're under staffed but it doesn't seem like that's the problem. i personally think it's just poor management, but if they just had a better system for everything, things would run much more smoothly in my opinion. i would also say the place kind of feels musty sometimes. and when you walk in it has a strange smell. i will say some staff lack certain hygiene and sometimes it's very difficult to talk to them while my order is being taken. but besides that i would say the food is usually good. the last time i was there the waitress i had was so very kind and sweet. she did seem a bit over worked but she was a good listener and very attentive regardless. i wish i remembered her name, she was a really...
Read moreOverall the food was great, the waiters were very kind, the food came pretty quickly and the seats were very spacious, and very clean. The restaurant is very well decorated and looks super cute. However it’s a bit on the expensive side IMO. I bought 1 dessert and 1 burger and it basically almost cost me 40$, perhaps due to inflation but a crazy amount to spend nonetheless. I also didn’t like how, if you order sweet and salty, they bring both at the same time- so make sure to clarify to them that you only want your ice cream after you finish eating your burgers!
For the love of Rocher, skillet cookie: Absolutely AMAZING 10/10 MUST TRY or you will miss out on their best dish. This one dish carries the restaurant.
Blue Lagoon Mojito and Mango Mojito weren’t terrible. All my friends enjoyed them however I found that they tasted too much like carbonated water but with a super un-enjoyable sweet taste at the end.
Hidden Gem: People who enjoy dark chocolate might enjoy this one. We were not expecting the cake on the inside to be as dark and rich as it was, which ruined the experience. When we cut into the cake, it wasn’t like a traditional lava cake where chocolate melts out of it which was also a disappointment. All 5 people in my group agreed that this dish was not good at all. However the crepe it self was pretty good
Dark Chocolate and Pistachio Croffle: Very good. The croffle had a balanced sweet taste to it and was super soft. The ice cream makes it even better as well!
Road Trip Waffle: A disappointment for the most part. The waffle was ok, tasted like the eggo ones that you toast. Everything else was very good tho. The ice cream was FANTASTIC, the white chocolate was a really nice addition, and the chocolate on the side tasted great with the ice cream. If your debating between buying a waffle or crepe, go for crepe!!!! (Or a croffle)
Samosa Burger: An interesting idea indeed. It blew my expectations for sure, the samosa added a good flavour to the burger, would definitely recommend (plus you can tell people you ate a burger with a samosa inside 😭😭)
Hawaiian Burger: A really great option for a burger. The pineapple wasn’t very strong, so thankfully the burger wasn’t sweet. The onion rings were great. My group liked this one better than the samosa one, but either are a...
Read moreI had a disturbing and deeply disappointing experience at the D Spot in Kanata.
I arrived with my Kingston 4 Paws Service Dog, a fully trained and certified service animal from a registered organization. She was clearly marked with a visible service vest.
Immediately upon entering, a server told me I couldn’t be there because of my dog. I calmly explained that she is a legally recognized service animal, and I had documentation if needed. The same server continued to question her legitimacy, despite the obvious identification.
After being seated, my guest and I were completely ignored for 25 minutes. No one came to our table to offer us any drinks or take our order, meanwhile a couple who arrived 15 minutes after us was served promptly.
During that time, multiple staff stood at the front counter, whispering, staring at us, and giving obvious side-eye, which made the environment feel hostile and exclusionary. The server also rolled his eyes at us several times, making it very clear we were not welcome.
When utensils finally arrived, they were covered in grease, absolutely unacceptable and unsanitary. We also noticed many fruit flies around our table and in the general seating area, further confirming the restaurant’s lack of cleanliness and hygiene standards.
As we left, several employees began mocking fear of my service dog, softly shouting “ahh” and clinging to the wall like she was dangerous despite her calm and professional behaviour throughout our visit.
I left shaking from anger and disbelief.
I understand that in some cultures fear of dogs may be more common but that does not excuse discrimination, hostility, or violating accessibility laws.
I will be filing formal complaints with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario and Ottawa Public Health.
D Spot must immediately train its staff on: • Disability rights and the legal protections for service animals • Professional conduct and respectful customer service • Food safety and sanitation standards
There is no excuse for what I experienced. This was blatant discrimination, paired with a clear lack of hygiene and professionalism. If D Spot wants to operate as a public business in Ontario, it is their legal and moral responsibility to train their employees properly and I strongly urge head office to...
