I would give it 3.5 if I could. I was so excited to try this place based on reviews and am sad to report that I am disappointed. I ordered a few things so I will break it down: Bacon burger: 4.5 star. This was the only thing that I could say tasted really good. The burger was a great size, the brioche bun was warm and soft, the bacon cooked nicely. The only issue is that it was doused in ketchup.
Kettle chips: 1 star. Pantry chips. I asked specifically if they were hand cut, flat, and not too thick like pub chips and was assured they were. This wasn't the case. They had been taken out of a chip bag, tossed in some oil, and served. I even got a few that weren't in oil but they were fully cooked so they 100% came out of a bag. They had no flavor and were not crispy anymore due to the oil being on them. Not worth the 4$ (w tax) upcharge.
Deep fried pickles: 3 star. They are cut thin and flat (round like fried jalapeños). The batter was great but due to there being more batter than pickle, there wasn't much juice from them and that was disappointing. I love deep fried pickles because when I bite into them I get a bit of crunch with a whole lot of juice and it's perfect.... my suggestion would be to cut the pickle thicker so there is a good enough pickle to batter ratio.
Chipotle sauce: 5 star. Amazing! I even added a bit to my burger. Ranch: 2 star. standard, nothing special, bland.
Service: 3.5 star. Friendly. Said my order would be ready in a few seconds, took over 10 minutes. I assume that was due to cooking the patty and that's ok, just would have been nice to be notified it'll be about 10 minutes, not a few seconds (that tells me like 2 minutes). They didn't give me napkins, my sauces, or utensils for my to-go order so I had to ask for that (glad I checked before I left). They also failed to provide me with a receipt and didn't ask if I wanted one. For all mentioned above it came to nearly 30$, but I don't have a receipt to give the...
Read moreEdit: This restaurant reported me to Uber for being "threatening or intimidating" because I held them responsible for false advertising and poor food and service by posting my Google review. I’m surprised someone who runs a business would take the time out of their busy day to try to get Uber to delete my account. See the attached photos.
Terrible food and worse customer service.
I ordered an Apple Brie vegan burger that’s supposed to have caramelized apples and "plant-based double cream brie". What I received was a burger with crunchy, gross, non-caramelized apples and 1/2 of a piece of coconut oil-based cheddar cheese. I threw most of it out. The photo they posted on Uber Eats looks absolutely nothing like the product they serve, which is misleading and scamming customers. The vegan poutine wasn’t any better, with salty, flavourless gravy and cheese.
I reached out to the restaurant via email to share my experience in private. I’ve never ordered from here before and know Uber Eats would likely deny the refund or make it a headache to receive. Therefore, I was expecting a response offering a refund in some way, perhaps through a gift certificate encouraging me to give the restaurant a second chance. Instead, the restaurant dismissed my concerns by saying that other vegans like this food, so maybe it’s just "not for me", and they refused to rectify the situation. They also admitted that the photo wasn’t accurate and that they’ve never used "plant-based double cream brie" cheese (they used the poutine curds which are not double cream brie). They then argued about their commission from Uber Eats to highlight that they’d rather lose a potential long-term customer and harm their reputation than offer a gift certificate or any other solution.
It’s unfortunate because I’d love to support businesses with vegan options, but now I’ll be telling everyone to...
Read moreI have been a patron of No Forks Given since 2021. It is sad that such an at-one-time nice neighbourhood restaurant that used to have such excellent poutine and burgers now serves unpalatable food.
This is the first time I have eaten here since the restaurant was taken over by the new owners.
The air inside the whole restaurant was that of greasy smoke. I get it. Accidents happen.
I ordered a chipotle chicken burger with a side poutine last night. The poutine gravy was far too salty and tasted the same as the British condiment Bovril. For those of you not familiar with Bovril, it normally is added to hot water for a nutritious salty-umami drink or added sparingly on toast (no more than a half teaspoon over a toast made from a normal piece of sliced bread). Imagine something that salty with the same consistency poured over the poutine. It was an abomination. Poutine is a Québecois and Franco-Canadian dish: the poutine I had here before the ownership change was exactly what I expect of a solid poutine. What I was served last night was repulsive.
The fried chicken in the burger was overcooked and tough.
I can reluctantly live with shrinkflation. I, sadly, can live with higher prices. I am sorry, but I would not be able to live with myself if I were to order food from here again without being guaranteed a free sample of the gravy and a piece of the fried chicken first.
I am deeply upset and disturbed by the food I have been served. Did the previous owners not leave you with the recipe of the poutine gravy? Why must you deprive Sandy Hill of what used to be the best-tasting poutine in the neighbourhood? What I was served was a culinary travesty. Cutting corners like this is how you turn a thriving business into one that will go out of business. No Forks Given does not have a monopoly on bar food in the neighbourhood.
Please make the...
