TLDR: If you want to be served a medium pho after paying for and expecting a standard extra large pho like the ones that are served at other vietnamese restaurants in Ottawa, come to Pho Truc Lien. My first and last time here. Just ordered an "extra large" soup for take out and was given about a liter of broth with little meat mixed in, along with a small container of clumpy and crumbling noodles. I ask one of the employees if they made a mistake and if they gave me a small or medium soup instead and he answers no, then points at the top of the styrofoam container and says: when it's extra large we fill it to the top, when it's large we fill it here (pointing 1 centimeter lower) when it's medium we fill it here and so on. Go to other vietnamese restaurants in Ottawa and the difference between extra large and small is a full container of broth, not a couple centimeters of liquid. Same with the meat or the noodles, other places give you extra containers when you order extra meat or noodles. And what's up with the fried wontons? There's barely any filling in them, check out the attached picture.. Paid 50$ for a soup, two orders of spring rolls and some fried wontons (calling these things wontons is a stretch)

WORST "Vietnamese" food I've ever had. My wife and I ordered for takeout and was told the wait would be an hour. I ordered the "Bun Bo Hue" in which the girl taking our order refered to as the oriental soup. I should've hung up then and there but we wanted to give them a shot. If you see the pictures, I received a toddler size serving of noodles and meat. Furthermore, this is the wrong type of noodles and meat for bun Bo hue. The soup was also incorrect; just a generic lemongrass tasting broth. My wife ordered the beef vermicelli and received the same toddler serving of noodles and few slivers of dry meat. 3/4 of the meal was beansprouts and cabbage; awesome if you are vegan I suppose. I hate bashing restaurants but this was an EXTREMELY sad, disappointing and overpriced meal. I almost feel offended we received what we did. I honestly don't even think the owner is Vietnamese based on what they serve.

I have eaten at well over 100 Vietnamese restaurants in my life. If I have learned one thing, it's that you very rarely go wrong with the mom and pop organizations. Such was the case at Pho Truc Lien. While the restaurant is found in a fairly old building, don't be deceived by the somewhat rough exterior. Inside, it is clean, tastefully decorated, and super-chill. It seemed that the staff were all family, and were all very friendly, prompt, and professional. The food was fresh and delicious . You could tell that it was prepared with the attention to detail that you would not necessarily find in one of the Vietnamese chain restaurants. I will definitely be going back and recommending it to others.

We decided to try this restaurant during the holidays. We ordered 3 plates and an order of shrimp salade rolls. The bill came up to 105$ and that’s without tip. I got home and opened the containers, and I was very disappointed to say the least! The plates were tiny, one scoop of salade, 2 scoops of rice, and a very small portion of meat on top. It was honestly a joke! The shrimps in the shrimp salade rolls were cut in half! A total of 1 shrimp and a half was added to the roll. Everywhere else we went to for pho, they fill up the container and add bug shrimps..Not to mention, the container had a big gap to put the sauce, which killed the space. My advice to you is get bigger containers and fill them up! Especially for the price your charging. We will...
