Decided to try this place for breakfast. The place is neat, newly renovated and pretty wholesome feeling, but that's about as far as they've gotten.
My girlfriend and I were looking for a simple brekkie, so the two of us ordered the traditional breakfast. She asked for over-easy eggs, brown toast and crispy bacon. I asked for scrambled eggs, white toast and sausage. The waitress was quiet, unsure of herself and didn't write anything down. I noticed her asking other servers a lot of questions, even simple things like where the cutlery was (which was brought to us after the food). I also noticed that we were her only table, personally I find it important to let your customer know if you're training or brand new.
While waiting for the food, the staff was very unprofessional, friends/family coming in through the door with boisterous greeting. This Dunn's is run more like a mom and pops, not a chain.
When the food arrived my scrambled eggs (and plate) were cold. The majority of the homefries were uncooked. Sausages were split lengthwise, which I normally like, but they didn't get enough time on the heat and rather pink.
My girlfriends eggs were warm, her homefries equally as undercooked and the bacon was anything but crispy. Had the waitress checked on us after the food had been dropped off we could have discussed these problems right away. Instead I had to call her back over first chance I got, by then we were both out of coffee.
THIS is the real weak part, when my girlfriend asked that the bacon be crispy like ordered, the waitress went away to the kitchen. A couple of minutes later she returned with a side plate asking for the under-cooked bacon. They literally reheated the bacon that had been sitting on her plate, and served it back to her.
Maybe they make good smoked meat sandwiches, but the breakfast and level of professional behavior is so below par I will not...
Read moreDunn's is always been a famous for their smoked meat sandwiches but today they were not famous for their customer service. As we entered the restaurant and there was no sign stating please wait to be seated. As we looked around and looked confused no one was helping us out. The lady directly across from us did not look up at all to greet us during this awkward period after we walked in the doors. She did not seem to care at all that we were standing there. We decide as there were plenty of table to the left of us we would seat ourselves. The bartender came out from behind the bar to tell us please wait to be seated. Then she told us their was a big party coming in which is totally fine. She approach the other lady standing closer to the doors she asked if there were any seats. The lady simply said no and that everyone just was seated. I thought normally at a restaurant they would not want you to walk out their doors or they would give you some kind of a timeline of when we could be seated. After these two ladies making us feel more than uncomfortable the manager or chef said to us we could sit and wait at the bar ledge that was filled with cleaning products and buckets of cutlery. I am not one to write reviews but no restaurant has ever made me or the people I was with so uncomfortable. It's too bad because the smoke meats sandwiches are delicious but does not excuse poor customer service...
Read morewent there today for lunch with my disabled daughter. Poutine was cold and the gravy had lumps in it. I did not eat mine. When the waitress came to pick up the plates I told her it was not very good and what was wrong with it. She told me in future I should find her in the restaurant/bar and tell her instead of eating a quarter of it as she has no comeback with the kitchen. I told her that she should have checked up on us and then she started shouting saying that she is the only one on. She deducted the coke but I told her she should take one poutine off. She snatched the bill out of my hand, crumbled it up and said that she would pay for it. I phoned to talk to the manager and she told me that she was the manager - I guess she wears many hats! Nevertheless, she started yelling at me again and I hung up on her as she stated that we had a free meal and it was water under the bridge. Need to talk to the owner. My husband and I have been there 4 times in the last 2 weeks - my daughter was the 5th time. I guess they have lost 3 customers. Up until today we thought we had found...
