While in the Manotick today enjoying one of the park trails nearby, I decided to look up coffee shops and bakeries to grab a snack and give some business to a local shop. After reviewing the options I decided to check out this spot. It's mostly a little take out cafe/bakery and there are a lot of options for a light lunch or snack. Since I hadn't been before, I wasn't really sure what lunch items they had but there are little signs in the coolers telling you what everything was...they had sandwiches, salads, and many snacks and bakery items. I was a bit hungry and didn't think they had GF sandwiches or soup (that I could see, anyway), so I decided on the veggie quiche. I would have had the frittata as I'm not supposed to eat crust, but they had run out. Being a Saturday of a long weekend and a nice day, I'm not surprised. The nice teenager guy at the cash was very friendly and helpful and offered to heat it up for me. Service was really nice and friendly. I did feel a tad rushed though, as they were closing in a little less than an hour and I felt that anything I ordered, I needed to get it to go. So I was even more appreciative that the guy offered to heat up my quiche. I sat on their side patio as I had my dogs with me and enjoyed the quiche. It was excellent! The next time I'm in the area, I'll be back. They seem to have quite a few GF bakery items, so I look forward to trying a treat next time. The chocolate caramel GF brownie sounded amazing. While the cafe isn't too big inside, I liked their little patio and they are in a nice area close to the Mill and river. It's definitely a beautiful setting to enjoy your coffee and lunch. I look forward to my next visit...

However it was worth the mini adventure to get in. There are a few tables with chairs as well as a long counter with stools where you can enjoy some delicious food. Homemade and in house it's a delight to see the creations.. All their products are within the counter and some are also available in the stand up freezer. You can see the work being preformed behind as it's an open space. So many choices to choose from, main dishes, soups, sandwiches, and oh the desserts..
There are so many mouth watering temptations.. I have tried a few different ones and they do change so if you like it buy 2. I love the lemon squares, date squares and cookies. and cheesecake it comes in an glass jar which is refundable if you bring it back towards your next purchase. I love that idea! For me this place is worth a weekly trip, just because it takes me 20 minutes to get there but if I lived closer.. needless to say this is delicious, healthy options are available. So nice to see real food being made. Enjoy. Now I need to go for a drive and test out another...
Read moreOn Wednesday Jan 11, I had called in a cake order and asked if I could make changes to one of the cakes listed on the website. The lady who took my order didnt tell me that they dont allow for modifiations but took payments for the cake with my requests.
I mentioned to the lady who took my order if the baker wasnt sure of my requst to call for clarification.
Today I went to pick up my cake order for my daughters birthday (which is today) and the order was wrong.
I spoke to the GM, Mike and his option was to refund me and not have a cake or to take a cake that was made incorrectly at full price.
The GM said that this was a "teachable moment" for the staff who took my order but I have a hard time with that because they should know up front that they are not a "custom bakery". It's not fair to use my daughters birthday as a teachable moment for an adult who didnt do their job right. I am also upset at the GM. He asked me what I wanted to fix the situation and his response was "We dont give away free cakes" But its ok that a customer pays for the wrong order.
