We were looking forward to trying Tiger Sugar here in Ottawa as we enjoyed it upon our first taste in Vancouver. Ordered 2 "Black Tea Latte w/Boba" with 0% sugar & ice, and were very let down altogether.
First, the milk tea was incredibly weak tasting, reminiscent of a watered down black tea with milk added.
Second, the pearls did not taste like anything. While they were soft upon first bite, after being chewed, they disintegrated into mush without any fragrancy typical of brown sugar pearls. For a shop known for their pearls, this was the most disappointing part.
Finally, the two drinks (one regular and one large) came up to $17 after tax. I understand a % markup given Tiger Sugar is a known brand, but this cannot be justified if the products don't deliver quality. For comparison, an identical order at Coco would only total $11, and we have rarely been disappointed in the quality of their drinks.
One other small inconvenience is that they have disabled online ordering from their website. While it was a short wait between ordering in person & receiving our drinks, their website descriptions of menu items are unclear (e.g. I had to ask for clarification before learning that pearls are a smaller version of boba, the latter being the traditional topping associated with bubble tea.)
We have tried just about every other bubble tea shop in the city and would recommend most of them before this one. I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that perhaps they are still ironing out kinks given this is day 4 of opening, but I would not return unless they could AT LEAST could match their competition in terms of either...
Read moreI usually love coming in here for the brown sugar boba tofu drink but I do have to admit it’s not always consistent, sometimes it just tastes too watery and other times it’s perfect. This is the same opinion for all the other drink options I’ve had there as well.
This time when I came in to order the brown sugar boba tofu drink, I noticed on my way out that there were no boba in the drink. I came back to inform the staff and they said boba were sold out. If a customer orders something and you don’t even have one of the main ingredient in the drink, you’re suppose to inform them and not just take the order charging them full price and not even acknowledge what you did wrong.
With all the bubble tea competitions in the city, if they don’t improve their customer service, consistency, and quality of their products, it’s going to be really hard to make it especially in a small city like Ottawa. I’ve had Tiger Sugar in Japan before so I had high expectations but unfortunately turned into...
Read moreI got the black sugar coffee drink and it was so good. The drinks are really expensive, but for the coffee drink I got, there isn't anywhere else that sells bubbletea like that in Ottawa. I tried my sister's black sugar milk drink and it tasted like any other brown sugar bubbletea though so I would rather go elsewhere for cheaper. It was busy when I went so I was lined up outside with other people, given covid and the maximum occupancy. A guy went to the door, I told him there was a line outside because of the max occupancy. He ignored me and went in anyways and butt in front of us all. When it was my time to go in, I told the cashier (who seemed to be the owner) what the guy did and how rude he was. The cashier was really great and even apologized for that rude customer which I appreciate. The second time I went, the female cashier was really helpful on suggesting drinks. Really friendly staff both...
