Jeff Purvey's Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Peterborough

Born here and lived here for most of my life but had never had JP until yesterday. This is possibly for some reason that kept me away. I really wanted fish and chips yesterday and took a chance. My gf and her mom had mentioned that JP is greasy and they were not wrong. I even brought it to the attention of the guy at the counter and told him what i had read and heard to get an honest and upfront answer. The place was nearly empty at lunch hour (clue #1 that it isn't a good sign) except for 2 guys and a lady. He asked one of them if his chips and fish are ok, and he predictably answers they are good. I order 2 pieces and fries. About 15 minutes or so later, I get the order. I noticed he did kind of air out the fried product in the basket and metal spoon, then put in the metal holding deal. Long story short: never again. First and last. Sat like a weight in my stomach, could still taste that odd grease even 5 hours later. Chips were greasy. The butcher's paper was bleeding grease where it touched the product. I have had better. Had to pitch the rest. Underseasoned and flavourless. Overcooked. Seemed like a very long time to be cooking which explains why everything waa greasy, and probably old oil. Will...

I usually go to the one on Rubidge st, but I am going to start coming up here. I love Pervys a lot but Chemong is my new go to. First off....we gotta talk about how much of a GEM Dylan is. Coming into this location. This guy was a baller right off the hop. Hilarious. Polite. He's got a nice hair cut too. That all aside have you tried Dylans cooking? Crispiest fries this side of the galaxy baby. And the fish ...THE FISH?! You ever have such delightful food you have to rethink your life? You think....how have I gone this far in life without having food cooked this well, this delightful? Is this the true meaning of life? Well if you haven't then ....you haven't had your food cooked by Dylan.

Chemong road cooking blows the other location out of the water. Bring Dylan to every location to teach them how to cook as well as him. Long live Dylan! Hats off to you...

I ORDERED 2 FISH {NO CHIPS}, 1 JUMBO SHRIMP WITH CHIPS, 1 DEEP - FRIED PICKLES, 1 EACH OF COLESLAW/POTATO & MACARONI SALADS.

THE TOTAL WAS $48 & CHANGE. FOR THE MOST PART, A WASTE OF MONEY.

THE POTATO & MACARONI SALADS BOTH WERE SO GROSS THEY WERE INEDIBLE! I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT 3 COLESLAW BECAUSE IT'S THE BEST ON THE PLANET!

THE JUMBO SHRIMP {8} WERE RUBBERY BUT STILL OK. FRIES WERE OK BUT I EXPECTED BETTER FROM A FISH & CHIP SHOP.

THE DEEP - FRIED PICKLES WERE THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD IN MY ALMOST 59 YEARS! DELISH.

THE 2 FISH WERE VERY LACKING, NO WONDER THEY'RE CHEAP. NO IDEA WHAT KIND OF FISH THEY ARE, BATTER IS NOT GOOD & THE 1 PIECE WAS...
