Karma's Cafe — Restaurant in Peterborough

Great restaurant for Asian dishes in Peterborough. Ranging from a few Tibetan dishes to ones from India, Thailand and Indonesia.

Dishes tried:

Karma’s platter - great to share as it has a few of each of the appetizers. Delicious bites! Especially the Tibetan beef momos (dumplings)! I highly recommend starting with this to share.

Noodles with Lime Leaves and chicken - delicious red curry base (Thai), mildly spicy and good for the cold weather.

Tibetan beef Fingsha - delicious stew but with an acquired flavour. A hint of sourness to the soup with sliced onions and tomatoes and thin slices of beef. I grew up eating similar Asian flavour so I thought it was good and reminiscent of home.

Butter tea - very soothing creamy tea! Base is black tea with salt, butter and cream. Definitely worth a try! Surprisingly works quite well with the salt and butter.

The food was not bad, but not that good. Pad Thai didn't taste like Pad Thai, and everything else did not taste like what their names suggested. Service was less than adequate. The server took our orders and then disappeared until the bill. She was busy serving other tables but never seem to want to come to our table. Never brought the napkins we needed and didn't get a chance to order more drinks either. She didn't seem that friendly; just enough to not appear as rude.

The other server seemed to be more pleasant and responsive, but unfortunately she did not serve our table. I guess it's hit-and-miss for service here.

We called to make a reservation but was told they don't take reservations. However, we noticed everyone that walked in was asked if they had a reservation. Not sure what the deal is at this place.

Not my favourite restaurant,...

My friend and I went there recently for lunch. I was not all that impressed. The atmosphere is ok, but the food....at least what we ordered wasn't great. It didn't taste like authentic thai food. I ordered Karmas curry. It was meant to be a red Thai dish, but tasted more like stewed tomatoes with chicken. No coconut milk, and there was a severe lack of curry. My friend felt her food wasn't great either. In addition, we ordered a mixed appetizer platter. Some of which was ok, but the shrimp tasted off.....like fishy. Shrimp shouldn't taste like that. Then when I received the bill, for lunch....it was $132! Normally this wouldn't bother me, I knew what the meals cost when I ordered, but after eating and sampling a few items, it just wasn't worth the money. In short, I would not go back...
